Both rear wheel bearings needed replacement at 37,000 miles. Then, we needed to replace both front ones over the past couple years years. The vehicle now has 108,990 miles and we just needed to replace one of our rear bearings AGAIN! So, we have completed 5 wheel bearing replacements now. This is absurd!
I'll never buy another GM product again, especially after all of these posts. I had to replace both wheel bearing hubs on rear after the piece that the sensor reads broke off. The brake, traction control and ABS lights were all on.
ABS and Stabilitrack light came on. Took in to repair shop, they read the codes, and told me both rear wheel bearings were bad and both needed to be replaced. With less than 50,000 miles, I find any kind of repair an issue. Back to Toyota
For all the cars I have owned, this has been the most expensive one as I have had to replace both rear and the passenger front wheel bearings. Around 45,000 miles ( mostly highway), I heard a swishing sound and then a creaking sound and then it kept getting louder as time went on. I couldn’t believe that both rear bearings needed to be replaced at that mileage.
I filed my complaint with GM customer service but they claimed that it is not a part defect. The front bearing I replaced in the late summer 2017 at around 68000 miles. It is good to know I am not suffering in silence as I figured when more of these models get into the 40 -50000 mile range that the complaints will increase as these wheel bearings are junk. When the creaking begins as you push on the brakes, it is a sign that the bearings are going out. It will just get louder from there and you have to replace them or it can be dangerous for you and other drivers. I welcome the day when GM sends me a notice to provide them with my repair costs for reimbursement as this is not a cheap problem to fix.
We purchased two 2014 Malibu's one had 31,000 miles when a bearing went out and was covered under warranty. The other had 64,000 miles when it lost a wheel bearing also. Unfortunately this was not covered and cost us $450.00 to have repaired. The dealer agrees this seems to be a chronic problem as they see allot of this type of failure with the Malibu. Chevy is not doing anything about the problem.
