I leased this car February 23 2016 and three days later my steering wheel locks up on me on the highway in an busy area, doing the speed limit of 70mph with my daughter and family in the car as well. I couldn't move left or right I just coasted, it seemed liked the car turned off and turned back on within seconds. I was very upset and it was dangerous. It's currently at the dealership now but the unconvincing part is I have to pay a deposit and insurance for the rental and I haven't had my car for two weeks.
I have a 2013 Malibu and my radio goes and then the steering wheel locks up. I have paid $300 out of pocket to change some sort of connector issue, had all the wires and batter cables changed. GM put a new radio in it and it still did not fix the problem. GM said I should not have paid out of pocket. Same issues continued to happen so I took it back to the dealership and now they are telling me the steering rack/gear is bad and I have to pay $1800 out of pocket to get it fixed. The man said that the issue happened to them while driving it so they were able to correctly diagnosis the problem. They told me that the second time I took it in as this is the fourth time. Why couldn't they correctly diagnosis it the first time it did it to them and it seems that there are numerous complaints of this problem so how are we/I responsible for a GM defect. Has anyone had any luck in getting GM to take responsibility for this.
At hwy speeds, the steering will put up a slight resistance when you are correcting your direction of travel. It feels like it is sticking and wants to stay in one spot.
There is a recall, but the dealer won't fix it till it becomes more severe. They state that the problem is not that bad.
I guess when you smack something, its time to fix it !
Chevy sent me in Nov 2014 a safety issue about the steering. I went to the Chevy dealer 2 times, they did nothing. Plus, Chevy did not do a recall on the steering defect safety issue. Then on 6/21/2015, I was coming around a curve and the steering wheel stayed straight, causing me to be in the other lane. Had a bad car accident because of this steering defect that Chevy did nothing about. I also had injuries, but I got the blame for the accident because of the Chevy steering defect. My 2013 Chevy Malibu Eco got totaled and my insurance had to pay for the other cars damage and my insurance rates went up up up for 3 years. The entire accident was the fault of Chevy's steering defect and that they refused to recall or fix
When driving our 2013 Malibu the steering seems to stick or pull. We had it in on 12/17/14, they stated that they were going to rotate the tires ( we advised that this was just done 1000 miles ago) and that they were going to update some software. We still continue to have the pulling feeling when driving our car.
Thank goodness after many repair attempts, with multiple issues with this car GM has agreed to re-purchase our 2013 Malibu back,

1.Blown head gasket and timing chain cover at 19,000 miles
2.Motor runs rough, is loud and cuts out.
3.Transmission has hard shifting and can never figure out what gear it wants to be in.
4.Steering pulls/ sticks
5.Gas Mileage is poor averaging 19 Hwy/ 16 City
All these problems with a car that has less than 22,000 miles on it!!
When driving for a long period of time, the steering seems to stick, it takes a definite amount of force to turn the wheel or correct the vehicles course.
When driving at freeway speeds, the steering wheel becomes stiff and sticks when trying to adjust right or left in the lane. I have to force the wheel to turn and it gives a stiff feeling and feels stuck. It will click when I force it to adjust right or left. Does anyone know if Chevy has identified this problem and what the fix is?
