Takata recall I have a 2013 Chevy Malibu eco with roughly 89K miles. My 'service airbag' light came on randomly as I was pulling into my driveway on July 27, 2019. I have not had an accident in my car, and I this is the first time I've ever seen this light. I remember a few years back, I received a notice in the mail from the dealership about a recall on airbags (something related to the deployment) and I went and got it serviced. Well it's 2-3 yrs later and my airbag light is on. I'm concerned if this is related to the takata recall as well. I can't understand why my 'service airbag' light would pop on so randomly.
On 2016 I had a collision claim number 3005632019 -1-7. I didn't have deductibles and therefore the vehicle was not fixed immediately but the insurance had paid part of their portion. On April 8th I was involved on accident and had injuries which I was discharged from treatment not long. Therefore the vehicle still had the bent. On March 12th 2019 the vehicle was hit again on the rear along the tire. Now I had the vehicle fixed both damages at maaco at Tacoma. This was done through the insurance. When I took the vehicle at maaco there was no airbag light. They were replacing the passenger door and fixing the bent for both collision. When I picked up the vehicle I noticed the air bag light and I informed the maaco representative. He told me it will go away by its own. It didn't go away and we agreed with them to take it back. When I followed up with them they said that they can't fix the problem but had contacted the insurance. Days passed without getting an updated. Lastly I am told to drive the car back with me and that I have to prove to the insurance that the light is caused by the old accident. I feel it is not safe for me to drive it with the light on as it is not safe for anyone. I don't have transportation and I am paying the insurance and the loan.
When my 2013 Chevy Malibu is in motion and someone is in the passenger seat (many but not all times) all of the electronics, including the electronic speedometer, and all dashboard gauges, in the car stop working and notifications about the airbag system and braking system appear. The mechanical aspects of the car still seem to work fine, but the notifications about the airbags and braking make me concerned that it is not safe. This has been happening for a year. I have tried taking my vehicle to the dealership multiple times and have been told they either cannot replicate it or they will "fix" something that doesn't end up solving the problem. Given that this problem started randomly and not with any intervention on my part of the part of any mechanic, I am contacting NHTSA because I am concerned that this problem is related to the airbag sensor in the passenger seat and that this might be happening with other people and could represent real danger if this really is affecting the airbag and braking systems (even when the passenger seat is not in use).
Passenger seat sensor causes electrical components inside vehicle to be disabled. Heat and air conditioning do not function and temporary loss of power occurs. This occurs while vehicle is in motion and while stationary.
The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated and "service air bag soon" appeared on the instrument panel. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The failure mileage was not available.

After the battery went dead for the first time on the car, it was jumped and taken to dealer to replace. The next day the service airbag light is on and taken back to dealership. They now want to charge over 1000 to fix something that was defect due to battery was jumped and shorted module. Now my car does not have working airbags and this problem is all over the web in different groups as a reoccurring problem.
I swerved and hit braks hard to miss deer went on to shoulder of road I was the only person in my car and both curtain airbags depolyed - my car is being deemed totaled because of the exstensive airbag damage to inside.
The airbag lite came on and says service airbags, and dings and know it is on all the time and will not go out, I know there have been a lot of recalls on airbags and was wondering if this could also be coming as a recall
Had an accident on 5/24/2018 it was a head on collision where the at fault driver broke the light and ran in yo my car the air bag did not deploy I sustained a fractured ankle and a neck injury due to the accident
The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated. The dealer (castle Chevrolet, 400 E roosevelt rd. Villa park, il 60181, 630-279-5200) advised the contact to bring the vehicle in for inspection and diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified and had not issued a recall for the air bags. I was turning from a private drive and collided with another vehicle. I was in a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu ls travelling at approximately 15mph, the other driver in a 2010 Honda Accord travelling at approximately 45-55mph. The collision was between my front left and his front right, no passengers. No air bags deployed from either vehicle, and as mine did not deploy, I received a concussion when the back of my head broke the driver's side window. I don't know if this is part of takata, as I cannot find the manufacturer of my car's airbags. Chevrolet provided no information as to the manufacturer or why at least the curtain airbag would not have deployed to prevent concussion.
The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving 28 mph, the "service air bag" warning indicator illuminated without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 79,648.
There was a safety recall for this model but it did not include my car's VIN for some reason. I have had dealership repair the problem twice, once while still under factory warranty and then recently due to airbag harness wiring shearing off. The dealership repaired the wiring and charged me the deductible under extended warranty but advised the issue could happen again due to faulty design engineering. The issue happens apparently while raising and lowering the driver seat. The wiring harness can easily get caught in the gear mechanism.
This will be second time ocurring within two months..while driving panel lights up radio turns on for a few minutes then airbag light remains on when everythign else turned off.. took to dealership to repair and they stated it was the airbag module..replaced it and a month later same thing happened... back at dealership today
Air bag indicator light is on. Service airbag message appears when starting vehicle. The bumper to bumper warranty has expired but not the powertrain. Is this covered by warranty and is it safe to drive vehicle?
