noisy gm strut mounts: struts fit loose in the mounts
the gen7 malibu is GMs cost-cutting recession build with very thin metal in the firewall/floors/doors and not enough noise insulation to compensate for it. you can hear how thin it is up through the wheel wells, when you shut the doors and when you floor it into overdrive the engine noise/rumble is abnormally excessive). the car is very noisy, and on top of that, the GM struts dont fit well in GM mounts causing loads of added noise/vibration to the mix. the dealership changed the struts not the mounts and reduced the strut well noise by 10-20% at best. the answer to solving strut noise in mounts is to not use GM strut mounts and replace them with monroe strut mounts.
