The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the key failed to release from the ignition. In addition, the gear was difficult to shift. The contact had to apply force in order to shift the vehicle into park. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on two occasions. The technician was unable to duplicate or repair the failure. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The contact also stated that the power steering warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the ignition switch, the steering column, and the parking brake wire needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 50,000. The VIN was unavailable.

Problem with ignition switch car will not start now, they have recalled up to the 2008 mailbu but not the 2009 mailbu (ltz) for this issue. Resolution to the issue would be replacing the switch with a new one not what they are doing now drilling a hole in the key, really. Chevrolet has a massive issue with a lot more cars that need to be recalled which have no been yet. If they want to keep there customers they need to repair correctly and recall and fix it the right way. My call needs a recall for this now.

While idling with the vehicle in gear at a drive-thru window, the ignition turned off without any input (intentional or unintentional) from the driver. Because the vehicle was not listed as being impacted by the ignition switch recall, I had not removed the many keys that I keep on my key ring. No report made at the time, anticipating the ignition switch recall would eventually be widened to include my vehicle, but it has not. Decided it's time to finally file a report in case my vehicle is part of an as yet, undetected problem with the ignition. (currently following the suggestion to minimize what is kept on the keyring that holds the key to the vehicle.)
