I don't know what the long term effect is of this problem, but the gas cap "area" behind the lid fills up with dirt. So when I go to fill the car I have to remove the dirt first. I have had dust even get past the gas cap itself. A real solution would be to put a seal so that dirt cannot get inside. Designers need to be a little more realistic to real world applications of these vehicles.
