Malibu Brake Light Cruise Control And Traction Control Malfunction Fix - You dont need to replace any switches! This same problem happened on my 2008 malibu. I also had problems with my cruise control and traction control circuits malfunctioning. The problem is very slight corrosion/intermittent pin connection problem. You can find the solution here (eventhough the pictures show a 2004ish vintage Malibu):

Anyone can do it. Common autoparts stores sell small little packets of dielectric grease for around $1-2 dollars. Try this before replacing any parts or paying a mechanic.
The car was in a rear end collision and the body work was repaired. However, now the brake lights always stayed on. I took it back to the people who did the bodywork. They said they did not cause the problem and that the culprit was a bad Brake Light Sensor. They installed a new one but that did not correct the problem. They put the old sensor back in and now I must leave the car with them to have the wiring inspected.
Brake lights stick on most of the time. I have no clue what to try . I guess i will start with the wiring. I had the pedal switch replaced and calibrated twice. It works long enough to leave the dealership. Suggestions welcome.
i had the problem with the brake lights the dealer told me it was the switch under the dash behind the brake pedal .i had that done and it didnt solve the problem after they charged me 250.00 dollars asked them for my money back they said no .i said why what i payed for wasnt the problem then they told me they looked it up on there system and they came up with the brain of the car or (bcm) body control module is what they called it. that fixed the problem but it was another 650.00 dollars.
The brake light is sticking again and if it continues to stick I will most likely have to take it back to the dealer. They will charge me another $195 dollars to fix a problem that will problably have to fix again next year. If that happens I will so so so dissappointed!!!
Chev used to be such a reliable car. Now the parts are made cheap and cost a fortune! I have had more problems with my Malibu than any car I have ever owned! My brake lights were sticking on, but when i would touch my brakes, the lights would turn off. it was very dangerous. I had random people pull me over to tell me. I was scared I was going to get rear ended. When I took it to the dealership they said nothing was wrong with it. So I found a 1800 # online for GM and got in touch with a woman named Suzanne. Awesome! She called and called the dealership every day until they finally returned her call and fixed my car, no questions asked.
