- Malibu Brake Light Cruise Control And Traction Control Malfunction Fix - You dont need to replace any switches! This same problem happened on my 2008 malibu. I also had problems with my cruise control and traction control circuits malfunctioning. The problem is very slight corrosion/intermittent pin connection problem. You can find the solution here (eventhough the pictures show a 2004ish vintage Malibu): http://www.paulstravelpictures.com/GM-Chevrolet-Malibu-Brake-Pedal-Off-Tail-Lights-On-Repair-Guide/ Anyone can do it. Common autoparts stores sell small little packets of dielectric grease for around $1-2 dollars. Try this before replacing any parts or paying a mechanic.

The car was in a rear end collision and the body work was repaired. However, now the brake lights always stayed on. I took it back to the people who did the bodywork. They said they did not cause the problem and that the culprit was a bad Brake Light Sensor. They installed a new one but that did not correct the problem. They put the old sensor back in and now I must leave the car with them to have the wiring inspected.
