It's a very uncomfortable issue. It's a very expensive fix. When I contact Midas they quoted around $1050. Even if I sell my car, I won't get $3500. At this moment I am using trip meter to guess miles and filling gas. Sometimes in a hurry missing reset trip meter and fill gas somewhere else instead of my regular whole sale gas store. Still searching different repair shops for a lower quote but it's a very irritating issue.
Fuel gauge does not work, senor in tank is bad. Never had this problem on any car I owned. Dealer wanted about $400 to fix. Have to remove the fuel tank to fix it. I just use the trip odometer, but still is annoying.
My gas gauge is all over the place. It will go from a normal reading to low enough for the low fuel chime and low fuel light to come one. I notice this more when the car is either sitting in park or waiting with my foot on the break. When the low fuel light is on, you can't even see how many miles you have left to drive on. Once the car is in motion, the gas gauge will readjust itself.
The last 2 fill ups my gas gauge will read full. Not even 500 feet from the gas pump the gauge will go straight to empty and the low fuel light will come on. It will fluctuate from full to 3/4 to empty. Back and fourth. now my check engine light is on and will not go out.I have called the dealership and they want $75.00 just to drive into the service dept. not to mention how much it will cost. Does anyone know what can be done to fix this problem.
I NEVER KNOW HOW MUCH GAS IS IN MY CAR I HAVE TO GO BY MILEAGE. I FILL UP AND IT DROPS TO EMPTY. IT COULD BE REALLY DANGEROUS IF I DO RUN OUT OF GAS AND GET HIT OR KILLED.
Seven Year old car with about 50,500 miles. After filling up gas tank, like normal, gauge immediately drops to empty, low fuel light comes on with requisite chime, After driving a few minutes the gauge needle floats up and down. After a while driving the gauge needle finally sets itself properly. Also bugging CHECK ENGINE light comes on which knocks out the remote engine starter. This has happened several times always after filling up the fuel tank completely at the gas station. I even tried replacing the gas tank cover with an OEM Chevy dealer part.(did not work). Finally brought it to a Chevrolet Dealer for service who diagnosed it as a defective fuel tank "floater" which meant that it was cheaper to replace the whole fuel pump rather than just the floater. Very expensive repair. My fingers are now crossed as I filled up right after the repair and car is AOK!
