Purchased this car shortly after the demise of my 97 Neon, which had been the best car I ever owned, 147K on the Neon and I only replaced the Starter, and timing Belt. the poor car was hit from behind, anyway we purchased this 05 Malibu Classic with 34K on it Jan of 07, I noticed some problems with the heater toward the end of the winter as it would not stay on recirculation, by the summer time and my wife needing to drive around with our 6 month old, the AC completely quick working, With a little trouble shooting on my part I discovered that this fully electronic part had failed. After spending 3 hours tracking down a new part from the GM dealers in my area, I picked one up and installed it. AC and everything worked Fantastic, now, in the dead of winter of 09, I am noticing the same symptoms as before. While talking to a friend who works for the GM dealer in my town he said this is a part that he frequently replaces. What sucks is at 200 bucks a pop every two years I am highly considering selling the car. The other solution is to attempt to find out what electronic part fails and replacing it on a component level. Other then this little annoyance the car has been great. It has 78K on it now and still runs very well. I just think this internal part should last longer then 2 years.
