After the first time power steering went, total cost to me was $560.00 with car rentals. GM refused to help pay for this. Exactly one week after repair, it happened again. This time for some reason, GM paid for the entire power steering column to be replaced. Supposedly, according to them, this was taken care of by them for "goodwill". I refuse to drop trying to recover my original $560.00 cost and have filed with the small claims court. I have a court date in October to sue them for this. If they are stupid enough to hire a lawyer around my city, they will pay more than that - either way, I WILL get justice. I am also looking to dump this junk of a car and buy a foreign car - never again will I ever get a GM car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 2004 Chevy Malibu an I hate the car. I have so many problems with this car it is'nt even worth paying for the car. The power Steering light came on about a month ago an me an my Husband looked for the power steering on the engine but, realized we couldn't find it. Then, we found out it was electric. Every now in again when we start the car we have no power steering. It has been to the point where it wont even start after we shut the car off when we have no power steering. Now, Chevy has said that they have NEVER had problems with the power steering before. Then I found this site which I found several

of the same problems with my car on this site.

I am so relieved to have found this same exact (weird) problem occurring with other Malibu's. I freaked out when my power steering starting going out intermittently. My check engine light and the power steering message kept going on and off. I would be driving along, and my steering wheel would jerk to the left. We have an appointment to see the dealership on Monday, and luckily I bought an extended warranty on this used vehicle. I bought it for a steal, but now I know why. At least I will have something to bring to the dealership to show that I am not the only owner experiencing this odd problem. Thanks, everyone! (I just wish that a recall would fix this so I didn't have to pay $200 out of my own pocket)
