I want to inquire if ths is under the recall. I will be asking General Motors to check into this case to confirm if it is fixable under the recall options rather than I pay out of pocket.

it seem to be something with the theft system for it will start fine for a while then out of the blue it won't start , it will only turn over and over and the theft light will be flashing. turn key off wait 10 to 15 minutes then turn key on , make sure theft light is not flashing and try to start , so far it starts but this is a pain in the butt. checked with internet , mechanics and other people with malibu's and seems to be a problem for alot of people. this is a default in car, to many people have same problem , sure makes chevy look bad, they need to recall this problem but they won't until someone sues them. i will never buy from chevy again, i have a cobalt too and nothing but problems, Never buy a CHEVY

Engine will crank and will not start. Wait for some time like 30 minutes, then car will start right at the turn of the key. Initially it will do that once every month or so and then it got more frequent.

Problem is not related to the Auto theft as light does not flashes. Based on the engine manual problem it was diagnosed that the 7x crankshaft position sensor could be the cause.

Same was replaced by a sensor bought from Oreilly autoparts but the problem got worse. Bought another one from the Chrevrolet dealership, problem solved.

I fear it's another Passlock problem. The car has always been touchy electrically - chimes sounding sporadically, door locks sometimes work, sometimes not. But, it always started with the touch of the key until about 3 months ago. It started to get hard to start. I attributed it to cold weather but then the engine started cutting out when I was driving at highway speeds. A panicked shift to neutral and coasting a half mile while trying to start it finally got it going - so far. It's happening more and more frequently. I replaced the TPS, Idle air valve and fuel filter. No help. Engine code says P1626 (Security System Fuel Disable). I took it to the dealer and he said that would never make a car stop while running while it was being driven. They offered to change the Passlock sensor of course - for $300, which doesn't seem to fix it from what I'm reading. Has anybody had this problem and actually solved it? Please let me know. This definitely is NOT safe.

I would just like to know what the problem is without having someone give me a song and dance and want to charge a bunch of money. The car won't start it just turns over and I've read about the filters being clogged and stuff like that. I hope that's all it is but would like to know if anyone else has had this problem. It was about 5 degrees outside tonight when the car broke down with my family in it.

  • came back from vacation and car was dead

    - replaced battery now car is cranking but not firing up.

    - "THEFT SYSTEM" was blinking and after about 15 continuous cranks, the gas guage would fall to empty...

    - put key in ignition and turn to ON position for about 10min. Flashing will stop/disappear

    - take key out, put back in and start the car...mine started up right away.
