This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Within the past year we have had multiple system failures with our 1999 Chevrolet Malibu with 47,000 miles. The intake manifold gasket has leaked, the brake pads, rotors, and wheel cylinders were repaired, the theft deterrent system and ABS warning lights come on repeatedly, and the alternator and water pump have failed. The passlock sensor and body control module have been replaced to address the theft system warning light and the harness and individual wheel speed sensors have been suggested for the ABS warning light. Chevrolet should be requred to recall the vehicle to address some or all of these problems.
Vehicle shakes and vibrates when brakes are applied. Also, stopping distance has increased. Front brake pads were being replaced too often from wear and tear. Dealer was notified, and problem still exists. Also, rear brake cylinders are starting to leak, and problem became worse.
