The rotors on my 1999 Chevrolet Malibu have to be replaced at least once every 6 months. I have spoke with many Malibu owners and they have the same problem as I do. So why is there no recall on this problem?
Have had many problems with this car! bought car 2/17/2001.....-8/15/2001 had to replace alternator....2/24/2002 had intake manifold gasket replaced because of coolant leakage, cost was 600.00.....06/20/03 had to replace battery due to leakage and corrosion around positive cable.......7/24/03 had to replace brake pads and have rotors turned for the second time....I think that there should be a recall for some of these things!!!!! car now has 70,000 miles on it... thought I was buying a good car!! :)
I have had my rotors reground numerous times over the past one and a half years as well as have had both bearings replaced in the front. I had all valves replaced on the coolant system and it continues to leak still. There is a strong oder that comes in through the airconditioning vents. There is also a strong vibration when braking or traveling at higher speeds which makes the vehicle difficult to control.

Continual brake problems. Three complete front brake services including rotors and pads each time at 20,000, 36,000, and 55,000 miles. All service was performed by Chevrolet dealers. After each service I have noticed a "grinding" noise, faint, at first but worsens gradually until replacement. Last dealer (simms Chevrolet ortonville Michigan) strongly suggested I call GM (which I have on the last two occasions) but they claim it is normal. I leased the vehicle for my wife to drive to work, but she will no longer drive it as she is afraid of a total failure.
The front brake rotors keep getting warped and GM denies that a problem exists but a search of this site and several others on the internet prove otherwise. The brakes cause the front end to shake the steering wheel so violently that stopping in an emergency would be impossible. This happens everyday, winter or summer, to and from work which is 20 miles total with 15 miles on the freeway. I had the brakes re-done at 36,000 miles and they started shaking within one month. This shaking continues mildly when driving at 65 miles per hour which also causes tires to wear out. *dimsii IVOQ entry posted after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis**741839
Front brake rotors causing extended stopping distance. Rotors have been replaced 3 times prior to the incident. Manufacturer has been notified. Please provide additional information.
The rotors warp every 10,000- 15,000 miles. Also, the stopping distance has increased. The dealer has repaired this problem 3 times already. The consumer states that there is early shifting in all the gears, the ride is rough, the electrical rear defogger doesn't clear well, sometime the passenger seat belt sticks, the brake pedal goes to the floor/too far, sounds like air is coming through the front door/and window-per bulletin, the passenger inside door handle had broken out of the support braket-R/R, the rotors are worn/out of adjustment/and make noises when stopping/pulsation from rear brakes-drums, and at low speeds the transmission jerks/slipping-diagnosed a leak from pan bolts.
While driving and when brakes are applied vehicle will vibrate due to bad brake rotors. Replaced parts, problem reoccurred. Dealer contacted. The consumer believed the rotor problem was due to manufacturing defect.
1999' Malibu has been in for brake/rotors times with less than 37,000 miles. Same issue with1999' Alero, was taken in for service 3 times for brakes/rotors, ended lease early last month.
Rotors have required replacement due to warpage 5 times in less than 40,000 miles. Cell phone number 407-341-4314. Consumer states the faulty brakes cause vibration.
When applying brakes there was pulsation and vibration, dealer has turned or replaced front rotors 5 times. Consumer adds that the vehicle began to lose control when applying brakes and is noisy.
ABS brakes and rotors have to be replaced every two to four months. Took vehicle to dealer and problem has not been solved as of yet. Please provide any furhter information.
Due to severe pulsation and steering wheel shaking when applying brakes, I had rotors replaced at 11,400 miles...dealer said they were warped. Just had those rotors resurfaced at 37,000 miles....dealer and manufacturer swear normal wear and tear. I wish I knew my recourse so I don't foot the bill...the rotors are defective! also concerned about my safety in Malibu...thought it was my dream car....wrong!
