ABS pump leaking. Noticed a leak about 1 year ago, but it stopped. Started up again when I noticed break light come on. When brought it into the dealer they told me that the ABS pump was failing.
Searching your database model "Malibu" was not on the list. I find that hard to believe with so many complaints. After several no stops and finally an ABS that would stay on the cause turned out to be the passenger hub. You probably don't want to hear all the other stuff.
The consumer had to replace the ABS bearing 3 times. The light had come on twice, one replaced then the next one. The third time the vehicle made a funny noise.
For over a year now, my 1999 Malibu has had its check engine light on intermittently. It will stay on for months at a time and go off occasionaly. It was diagnosed by a Chevrolet dealer to be the air pump which I had replaced for approximately $400. The light is still on. I have had it diagnosed again, but the mechanic cannot seem to find the problem. I am now told that there is going to be a new law passed which will prevent me from getting an inspection with my check engine light on. If the dealer can't figure it out, I do not understand why I should be penalized and have to spend additional money for them not to figure it out. I also have my ABS light coming on constantly now for the past 6 months. The diagnosis showed it was the ABS sensor which was replaced and the light is still on. I took it back and it was diagnosed again. I had to have both front wheel bearings replaced ($500) at 55,000 miles, which includes new sensors. The light is still on. I am now planning on taking it in for another diagnosis.
Have to replace brake pads/rotors every 5,000 miles. I've spent more money on the brakes on this car than gas. I've also gone through 5 sets of tires. Replaced wheel hub bearings, and still, after replacing items, the vibration, shaking, instability comes back. Also, problem with ABS. Light comes on and stays on. I've had it looked at 6 times and dealer can't find problem. Each time after seeing dealer, it goes out. But then comes back on again in a few days. Have problems braking. I've had to stop quickly, and the brake pedal goes to the floor, and car won't slow down. It's as if I'm trying to slow down on a sheet of ice, and I live in Florida!!! back taillights constantly melt around bulbs. I've had to replace the tail light assemblies in both. Is Chevrolet going to do anything about these problems"? I've read that a lot of other people are having these same problems. Does it take a few people's deaths to finally get them to care" come on Chevrolet, I used to believe in you, but now I'm questioning the cars. This is the 6th Chevrolet car I've owned. Strongly thinking of never buying a Chevy again.

Problems with vehicle's brakes. The problem was with the ABS. GM had not been truthful with the consumer and left trail of evidence. People have been hurt and property have been damaged as a result. The dealer stated extensive rotor damage was found on the rotors.
Consumer stated that while driving at any speed, the anti lock brake light illuminated and remained on the entire time the vehicle was in motion. The consumer stated the alternator failed.
ABS light illuminated intermittently. Vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to determine the problem. Now while driving and applying brakes consumer could hear noise from "left front" of vehicle and anti-brake system (ABS) engaged itself. This caused the car to "coast" and almost collided with another vehicle. Vehicle is on its third set of pads and second set of rotors..
Front brake rotors causing extended stopping distance. Rotors have been replaced 3 times prior to the incident. Manufacturer has been notified. Please provide additional information.
GM disregarded all complaints. Even told me they would not answer any more questions. Brakes are still a problem. Uneven wear, pulling, stiffening in rainy weather, warning light coming on. GM refuses to even attempt to fix.
Consumer is experiencing continual problems with the brakes and rotors warping on this vehicle. Consumers first inclination that there was a problem with the brakes is when she brought the vehicle in because of a grinding noise. Consumer nearly lost control of vehicle because of a sudden need to brake, the vehicle went out of control as the rotors were shaking the steering column so bad the vehicle went into a skid, also the ABS light would illuminate on vehicle.
ABS light is on because sensor has broken in half. The ABS light illuminates intermittently. When taken to the dealer after shutting the engine off and turning it back on, the mecahnic informed consumer nothing could be tested because the engine was shut off. Consumer stopped to see another mechanic and this time the vehicle was deemed inoperable because the front wheel sensor was broken in half.
When making turns ABS light comes on intermittently, consumer will then shut off engine and restart. ABS light will then be off. Mechanic cannot find a cause.ABS light was illuminating at time of purchase. Consumer had to have a new motor put in because of a knocking noise in the piston plates. Alignment to the front suspension was needed.
ABS brakes and rotors have to be replaced every two to four months. Took vehicle to dealer and problem has not been solved as of yet. Please provide any furhter information.
Had coolant/oil leaking from valve cover/ intake manifold. Dealer replaced all 5 gaskets, oil and coolant. Only have 31,000 miles on the car. Also had resistor for fan control changed. Blower would not operate in position 1 or 2. one month ago in January, had transmission cooling leak. Dealer said it was "transmission internal wiring harness connector" leaking when I told them it was cooling line. Invoice shows changed harness, which I couldnt tell it was new because it was dirty, and changed gasket in cooling line. At same time had A/C blower control unit replaced. Ive had probelms with this vehicle since I bought it. Tires were "cupped" after first rotation. Dearler replaced 2 front tires under warranty. Now I have a problem with tires/wheels after each rotation when rear wheels are put up front. Said problem might be alignment, which is not covered under warranty. Also have had horn repaired due to inop. Dealer found wiring harness wasn't connected. Had control switch changed on power drivers seat. Drivers seat moves back/forth slightly when braking/accelerating. Passenger-side airbag was replaced due to "squeaking" when hitting bumps in the road. Had battery replaced due to acid leak eating off positive terminal. Had to leave car overnight at work brakes are due replacement due to "brake fade". car is total disapointment. Would trade it in, but I owe more than vehicle is worth.
