This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Car is driven 90% of the time on interstates and long trips brakes not used much compared to normal driving I have never replace brakes before 80,000miles or rotors under 150,000 miles.
Rotors repaired at 25,000 now again at 33,000 they are bad again.B/pedal almost to floor to stop. Called service sorry it is normal wear/"depends how you drive. No reason for 2X failure in such a short time. GM is covering up a poor quality produc.
My 1998 Malibu is having major problems with warping rotors! I have 29,000 miles on my car and have had the rotors turned twice and replaced twice! the first incident took place before 10,000 miles! the maintenance manager blames this problem on my driving. What can be done?

Rotor probems: 1st@10,333 2nd@17,914 and again @26,000. Also problems with door chime-would not stop chiming with keys out and lights off. Was taken in 6 times before resolved. Also taken in for tailight seal coming loose and now must go in again bc the driver rear passenger door will not open from the inside, door latch does not work. Car is a lemon. I have wasted too much of my time by continually going back for warranty work. A new car should not have this many problems. Have filed a complaint with GM directly on 3-24-00 bc this is not getting resolved.
Premature wear of brake rotors. Dealer has replaced the rotors 6 times. Manufacturer has been notified. Dealer now refuses to cover replacement costs under warranty.
Purchased vehicle in Feb. Of 99. In two weeks, had to replace rotors. In Sept. Of 99, had to replace rotors again. Dec. Of 99, tech suggested to shave rotors and turn drums. All this within 23,000 miles. This is sickening.
When applying brakes entire front end shakes excessively. Also, dealer has seen vehicle twice, and replaced rotors once and has turned them once. Problem still exists.
Rotors warped and were replaced at both 20,500 and 33,100 miles. They were turned down twice before 22,500 miles. Vehicle was pulsating at 60mph or higher before. I am afraid this will be a recurring safety issue and the vehicle is almost out of warranty. Do I have any recourse?
I have had the front brake rotors replaced on my '98 Malibu 4 times in 20,000 miles, yet the dealership denies that there is any problem whatsoever with the car or its parts. GM should have to buy back all of the Chevy Malibu that have defective brake rotors. It's a crime.
I have been to 2 Chevrolet dealers for service on my car. So far my rotors have been serviced 5 times. I would love to actually have my car fixed. I refuse to pay for this when my warranty runs out. I feel Chevrolet should have to do something with my vehicle. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
