When replacing the battery, the power surge of connecting the new battery caused the fuel guage to rotate 360 degrees where it got stuck below the empty level making it useless. The dealer did not know what to do. They said they would have to remove the guage and send it away to be fixed at my expense. That was unacceptable as I would be without a car for several weeks. I called numerous mechanics, none of which had any idea what to do about the problem. Finally, I found a local mechanic who removed the dash and reset the guage. However this was not the end of the problem as it happens every time the battery is diconnected and reconnected. Recently when I had a new alternator installed. I now know how to have it reset but I would like to know how to prevent it from happening again. Has anyone else had this problem or does anyone have any suggestions on how to prevent it in the future.
