The contact owns a 1995 Chevrolet Lumina. The contact stated that his windshield wipers work intermittently. The manufacturer informed him that his VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 97V017000 (visibility:windshield wiper/washer:switch/wiring). The contact will have the dealer replace the washer wiper switch. The failure mileage was 41,718 and current mileage was 42,000.
Failure of windshield wipers. First they would only work if it wasn't raining (cleaning windshield), now they have stopped all together. This has caused incidence of being stranded and near crashes even on christmas day with my two children and having to get rides to and from work. There is a recall on this for all other 1995 Chevrolet but not the apv seems as though since this problem is occurring on this vehicle the recall should be on it also. I could hear the motor trying to work and would sometimes be able to manually push the wipers back and forth to get them working again, but now they are locked up.
: the contact stated that on many occasions the windshield wipers would malfunction. On one occasion, the windshield wipers malfunctioned while driving in the evening during a rain storm. Recalls were found on NHTSA website that matched the symptoms that the vehicle was experiencing. The dealers and the manufacturer were contacted and determined that the vehicle's VIN number was not included in the recalls. The vehicle has not been serviced.
When I bought my van in may of 2004 I began having problems with my windshield wipers only working sporadically, I thought I would check into it and see if might be a recall regarding my vehicle. When I went online to search I found the exact problem I was having and checked to see if I was covered, I discovered multiple GM recalls that covered the problem I was having, and online it seemed as though my van qualified. When I phoned a dealer with my VIN #, I was told I was not covered under the recall. I believe that my vehicle is experiencing the same problem covered by the recall of thousands of other GM vehicles. Also, I have replaced the wind shield wiper motor and still have the same problem.

Problems with vehicle's windshield wipers. The consumer stated the windshield wipers stopped working while driving in the rain, the consumer was forced to pull over.
The windshield wipers failed intermittently. A recall was issued (recall #97V017000) for this model year but the consumers vehicle was not included due to VIN. The consumer called the manufacturer who stated that not all 1995's were recall because they didn't want the dealers to be overwhelmed with the wiper repairs. They also indicated that more vins would be released.
The wipers will just quit at random. This has happened several times. The heater core started leaking and had to be replaced. Both ball joints went bad around 30,000 miles, one under warranty, one just after 36.000 miles. The power steering pump started leaking at the pump shaft and made a real mess of the engine compartment before it was replaced. And I didn't report yet that the intake manifold started leaking oil recently and is under repair right now. This vehicle has needed alot of repairs that a quality product wouldn't have had.
Windshield wipers just quit, and sometime will work for a few wipes than nothing!!! then will work just like they were desighned to do, have had to pull over, and off the the highway when rain has started because the wipers wouldn't come on!!! I never know if they are going to work properly, I thought it was because of the age of my vehicle!! but I have seen where nsta is investigaing complaints on GM wipers!! so I thought I would write and voice my concerns!!! thanks for listening.
Windshield wipers are not working properly. Windshield wipers will intermittently stop working. Contacted dealer, and dealer stated that this vehicle was not part of recall due to VIN.
When driving and windshield wipers are needed windshield wipers work intermittently, and are currently inoperable. Also, recall 97V017000/ manufacturer's recall 97003 for same type of problems, vehicle identifcation number not included.
Windshield wipers stop all the time in rain just like all the other people complaining and all the dealer says is that the van is not under the covered recall. Same exact problem other people get fixed we will have to pay for because we sure can't drive it like this. If I get hurt I will sue GMC.
