Windshield wipers only work when they want to. On going problem since I bought van. Chevy says no recall was issued and it's not their problem. I have replaced the motor and still have the same problem. I can not drive if it is raining due to wipers may work but they could stop working again at any time. Also wiper fluid does not work when wipers do not work. I can not tell you how many failures due to it happens everytime it rains/snows/sleets. Meaning they may work or may not but if they do work they always stop.
The contact states there is a NHTSA recall campaign 97V017000 concerning windshield wiper/washer switch power feed wire. This vehicle is experiencing the same problems as indicated in the recall, but is not included in the recall due to VIN. The contact repaired the vehicle at his own expense. Updated 12/27/2005. The turn signal switch was defective. The brake lights failed intermittently. The wipers failed intermittently.
Ref: NHTSA recall no. 97V017000 some of these vehicles have a strained or separated windshield washer/wiper switch wire. This can cause the windshield washer/wiper to work intermittently and could ultimately result in inoperative wipers. This has occurred twice during operation of my vehicle while driving on interstate highways and needing the wipers during a sudden rain storm. Five minutes later the wipers would be working again. I have contacted both the dealer I bought the new car from, and Chevrolet (1-800-222-1020) and neither knew anything about this type of problem.
Windshield wiper switch board defect. Vehicles windshield wiper has stop working. There is a recall on Lumina but not this VIN #. seems to be the same problem as other switch problems.
Visibility: Windshield wipers, fail to work when you need them to work, damp weather, rainy weather, they are getting worse failing to work when your driving in bad weather, working when they want too!!! this happened right after I purchased the lumina van, new,24 miles on it, took it back to the dealer, they said they couldnt fine anything wrong because they were working then ( the wipers ) 8 years later I still have the same problem.

Recall 97V017000/washer/wiper switch: Dealer refused to honor recall notice because it is a salvaged title vehicle. Asking NHTSA to share some light on this matter.
