I began having problems with my windshield wipers only working sporadically, and when discussing with a friend, I discovered there might be a recall regarding my vehicle. When I went online to search if I was covered, I discovered multiple GM recalls that covered the problem I was having, and online it seemed as though my van qualified. When I phoned a dealer with my VIN #, I was told I was not covered under the recall. I believe that my vehicle is experiencing the same problem covered by the recall of thousands of other GM vehicles.
I have a 1995 Chevrolet Lumina apv minivan. I have had windshield wiper problems for years but refused to pay $300-400 to have them repaired because I felt it to be a product defect. Now, GM has a massive recall on many models but mine is excluded even though I was told by a few service people over the years that it was a chronic problem in GM minivans. I want them to include my vehicle in the recall.

Windshield wipers work intermittently. Vehicle has been checked by dealer several times, who would not repair because could not duplicate the problem. Currently, windshield wipers have completely failed and vehicle is no longer covered by warranty.
Windshield wipers on vehicle will freeze up and not work, but problem is an intermittent problem. Contacted dealer, and dealer was not willing to do anything.
The front windshield wipers don't work sporadically. This has happened since January 2000. I have taken it to a small service station, a Goodyear station, and heiser Chevrolet. None of them can find the problem because it doesn't happen the day they have it. I just want to know the cause so I can get it fixed. It happens during rain, snow, sleet and dry days. It only affects the front wipers. The back wiper works fine even when the front wipers will not work. The front washer fluid also does not work when the wipers do not work. I turn them on and absolutely nothing happens, no attempt to work, no noise, nothing. It's as if I never turned them on. I just keep trying them, and eventually they work as if nothing was ever wrong. This can take anywhere from 5 minutes after I start driving, to the next time I drive the vehicle. I am an accident waiting to happen. I want to know if anyone has experienced this problem, and what the solution is. Thank you.
While driving could turn on windshield wipers, and they will not operate, just intermittently, and sometimes will not work at all. Consumer had to play with switch, and they will work.
Windshield wipers, sometimes will not work at all, have suddenly stopped and restarted, weather may have been part of cause, but wipers have failed or not started after van has been in garage, during good weather. Wiggling switch on column, column postion, turn signal on has had no effect one way or another. Van is still under extended warranty, dealer hasn't found cause, has documented complaint.

Frequently the windshield wiper system malfunctioned, causing the wipers to be inoperative when it gets "wet". cause unknown. Consumer states that cause was a bad soldered ground connection on printed circuit board at windshield wiper motor, connection could vibrate to make and break contact, connection was cleaned and resoldered and consumer has not had any trouble since.
When turning on the windshield wipers they just work for a few minutes then stop while wipers still on. Consumer said dealer and manufacturer were contacted.
