Letter from senator nelson on behalf of constituent re 1995 Chevy Lumina airbag did not deploy. The consumer was involved in an accident and suffered injuries.
Steering wheel made clicking sound when trying to turn wheel became hard to steer as if no power steering and air bag light came on. Turned out to be the air bag coil - which had an exposed circuit. Noticed many technical service bulletins of this nature about the clicking in the steering wheel. Do not know if air bag was involved with the techinical service bulletins or other complaints. Could have been a very serious incedent if this occurred while driving the vehicle. So happens that it occurred while pulling out of a parking space at a Chevrolet dealership after just having the ABS system repaired.
Horn would blow on its own. Informed by mechanic the air bag had a short which caused the horn to blow. There was no warning light regarding the air bag defect. Also, the driver side window has an intermittent electrical problem causing window to be inoperable. Dealer disconnected the air bag to keep horn form blowing, and GM offered to pay for half of the repairs needed to correct the problem.
