I bought the Impala based on J. D. power and Assoc. Reliability ratings and the fact that a reasonably priced extended warranty was available from a dealer that advertised a "Forever engine and drive train warranty". I tend to keep vehicles. A well maintained vehicle should last 10 years or more.
Vehicles will eventually breakdown, I understand that, however I did not comprehend how much damage a failure of one part can cause to other parts. When my alternator failed (covered by the extended warranty) due to an overcharge condition, it fried the battery cable (not covered) and due to the "high tech" type of cable (not available in after market sites) I had to pay $473.00 to get it fixed at the McLarty Daniel Springdale Arkansas Chevrolet facility.
Everyone at the dealership was nice, very sorry, etc. but REALLY? $500 for a battery cable? What other "special" high tech surprises are in store? I am also wondering how many other "covered" parts are going to damage other components that are not covered and end up costing me hundreds of dollars to fix the problem. My sales people said the extended warranty I had bought was "essentially" a complete "Bumper to Bumper" warranty. Needless to say I am currently looking for a different vehicle. All of the joy and pride I have felt driving this vehicle is gone.
