This is the second time within 2 months that the rear window completely shattered while driving the vehicle, 2014 Chevy Impala, LT, on the highway. Google search shows several folks reporting similar experiences with LT and LTZ models, with some folks reporting it occurred to them more than 2 times. Additional research revealed that Chevrolet may have used electrical connectors, Metri-Pak 280 terminals, that were rated for no more than 30 amps maximum for the rear defroster yet placed a 40 amp fuse on this circuit. Some folks shared photographs of burnt connectors, located behind the front passenger kick panel.
Issue reported to Chevrolet and Gm dealer…complaint didn’t go anywhere, as the car is out of warranty. Dealer says they do not show any type of service bulletins regarding rear windows shattering and/or electrical issues related to overloaded or burnt connectors or wiring related to the rear defroster.
