My son was driving home from a college class. he was doing under the speed limit on a road in town. He saw a car a good distance away from him and pressed on the brakes to slow down or stop. Brakes did not engage, anti lock did not engage. He had the brake pedal pressed down as far as it could go. He rear ended the car that was in front of him. Now i know you are thinking every 20 year old would say it wasn't his fault but witnesses reported that the brake lights were on and the car never slowed down. The person he collided with could tell he was trying to brake but to no avail. We have seen other reports (now we have been investigating) of the 2014 impalas brakes failing. luckily no one was hurt as he was not going at a high rate of speed but I shudder to think what could have happened if he has been driving 70mph. When we had them look into the problem we received 2 responses. 1. We have heard about this but probably wont find anything because it is either a short or a software problem. 2. We couldn't find anything wrong with the brakes AT THIS MOMENT but that this problem could occur again. We are not confident in having our son drive this car. I would be wary of driving this car.
