AC always runs in HVAC "Auto' mode. Dealer Technician said it is supposed to run to maintain a comfortable interior. Chevrolet.com said that the AC should run "as necessary", I can turn it Off by pushing the AC Button (which turns Off the Auto Mode and puts system in Manual control, for everything.
Is constantly On (Wintertime) necessary? If I must do manual control, What is the Auto mode?
Best Example of this problem;
-It was nighttime, no Sun or heat load on Windows.
-Weather outside was freezing rain on the car body and windshield.
-Set both Temperature Dials to 85F.
-I have programmed "Auto Defog" to OFF.
-Drove the car 45 minutes, to Home.
-Left the engine running and raised the Hood.
-The AC Magnetic clutch was activated and the AC Compressor was turning.
Update from Jun 10, 2014: Service Manager researched this condition and said that the AC Compressor is supposed to be engaged and turning. He also said the the the AC is idling and not doing any actual work.
Apparently GM programs the cars to do this, so it is not just my car? I accept the explanation but am still having trouble understanding why the AC is even engaged in below freezing weather. You go Figure.
