About a month ago my 2009 Impala started having this loud clicking noise coming from the glove box. I had never heard this noise before until I had got in my car one morning for work. I heard this very annoying clicking noise and immediately thought my car was going to blow up, it was so loud and out of nowhere. I sat there and started my car, turned it off, started it again, messed with the ac controls, then out of nowhere it just stops. I then began to hear this annoying clicking noise all the time, when I unlocked my car, when I opened a car door, when I locked my car, sometimes when i was just walking by it in the parking lot, and when I messed with the ac controls. The noise always just randomly stopped I became so used to it that it was normal for me, but when I had new passengers, they would ask 'what is that noise?' and 'is it dangerous?' With a helpful YouTube video and Google searches I soon realized this was a the AC actuator and it was a problem for MANY people owning the same make, model and year of car that I own. I then learned it cost people nearly $400 to get fixed at the dealership. I now wonder why there is no recall on this car. I have yet to fix the problem because I have not had much time and I assumed if my car was going to blow up it probably would have already done it.

Definitely another poor GM engineering design. Should be taken care of under GM recall considering the cost of the repair, if GM plans to keep their loyal customers. Or they can just say too bad for you, and then when their loyal customers go shopping for a new car, they might consider one of the Japanese brands or another American brand with less reported engineering defects. Since everyone I know that owns an Impala of the same year, or close to the same year, has had the same problem, I can not say that it is an isolated incident. It is not caused buy abuse unless you consider turning the heater on and off abuse.

We aren't able to use the AC because when you turn it off, it makes a horrible clicking noise. And, sometimes it will do it even when the car is stationary and not running. This is awfully embarrassing to park, turn the motor off and the loud clicking noise starts and draws attention from other drivers. They wonder what's wrong with this car and the people who are in it. And say, you need to get that car fixed.

Update from Jan 21, 2016: We aren't able to use the heater because when you start the car, it makes a horrible clicking noise. After 30 seconds that noise stops, then an even louder noise starts - which sounds like someone beating a drum. It continues for a full minute. No matter what setting you choose, the heater does not work.

We are at freezing and below freezing temperatures here in North Carolina.

How are we to drive a car, when it makes an awful racket, then we have no heat?

A second time around for the same problem and of course the warranty from the first repair is no longer valid. Last year on 6/30/14 I took my car to the dealer for a loud clicking sound in the dash. The fix was to replace the Actuator for the A/C fan. Luckily I had a warranty plan and only had to pay the deductible. I have a 2009 Impala LTZ.

The past week 9/25/15 the same exact problem has started all over. An annoying loud clicking sound in the dash that starts as soon as I open the door, trunk and lasts for about a minute and a half. And after reading some of the other reviews here I have the same problem as they do. This fix is very expensive and I am not able to fix it right now. I feel there should be a recall on this problem, which by the way is not the first recall for this car.

I am hoping that this will be the case as I may go insane from the noise. Please people if you are having the same problem let GM KNOW EVERY WAY YOU CAN.

This should be a recall for Chevrolet Impalas (2009) when the dash clicks loudly and it is caused by the A/C actuator. The Dealership said it would cost $400. Please this should be a recall. This could start with any Chevy Impala at anytime, it is not due to any misuse or ware and tare. Chevrolet own up to this and fix the problem!

This is my third time replacing the blend door actuator on my 2009 Chevy Impala. I've already replaced the passenger side twice and now I had to replace the driver side. Which is even harder to get at since its behind everything under the dash. This is a really annoying problem and is very embarrassing as it is unbearable to be in the car as this thing is loudly clicking for several minutes. It starts up every time I open the car door and start the engine.

I've have spoken with at least ten or more people who have Chevrolet Impala's and they all have experienced the same problem. This should be a recall. I just purchase this vehicle in October of 2014. I don't think it's fair that the owners should fix a problem that's caused by the manufacturing or dealerships. The clacking noise of the fan is very, very, very irritating. I'm requesting that I have my vehicle fixed for free at one of your local Chevrolet Dealerships. I live in Prattville, Alabama.

Loud clicking noise under the dash when I unlock the door, turn the car on, turn the AC on, shut the AC off, shut the car off, and lock the doors. Very annoying. Noise started 1 week after warranty expired. I was told it is expensive to fix and very time consuming, so I am waiting for recall so I can take it in for repair. It sounds like my car is going to blow up.

Impala LT V6

I've had this issue several times before I discovered this site. It usually starts when I set the dual zone climate control to heat too fast. Now I have to very slowly push them up. Every time this issue comes up it causes a horrible clicking noise that makes it unbearable to sit in the car until it goes out in about a minute.

I've been replacing the DOOR BLEND ACTUATOR. There are 4 of them in the car. My passenger side is the one that keeps going out and causing the horrible clicking noise. Each replacement costs about $40 and is fairly easy to fix but time consuming.

I believe I keep having to replace this part due to the motor that goes to it going to far and breaking the plastic gear which then keeps clicking trying to go in place. I am surprised there isn't a recall on this issue since everybody I know that owns an Impala has this same issue.

Trying to convince my friends to buy an American car, but Woody Woodpecker under the dash doesn't help. This is a crazy problem to have.

First started when running the A/C only when the left side control was all the way on the coldest setting. Now, it is happening with the car shut off and sitting in the garage by itself. How can this even be happening?

All my family drive Honda's. I've been resisting their rave reviews and high mileage attainments for 20 years but I am beginning to believe I should join them.

I'll be taking it to my GM dealer soon.

Update from Mar 25, 2015: Ordered the A/C Heat blend servo from Amazon source for $23.00 and replaced myself. Took me about 2 hours and a few select words, but now the pecking is gone.

The tapping noise in the dash comes and goes , open door noise, starts, lasts less than a minute, has been making this noise for 6 days and counting, have not been to the dealer, yet, hope warranty covers this. Makes this noise all by itself.

The clicking in the dash started all at once. It clicked when the air conditioner was on and even for a minute or so after I turned it off. It got worse the next day, clicking all the time. We put it in the shop at the dealership on Monday and they replaced an actuator ($350.00). On Thursday of the same week, it started again. Since we were going to Florida from Tennessee on vacation, we went anyway. You could walk by the car in the parking lot and hear the clicking even though no one had been in it. When we got back 9 days later, we took it back to the dealership and they said they replaced another actuator ($350.00 again).

I gave the dealership a really bad review online and since we had bought 4 vehicle from them they reimbursed the last $350.00 saying they should have fixed it right the first time.

I own a 2009 Impala and the problem I have is the Clicking noise behind the dash board. Seems like everyone with a Impala has the same problem. I really think GMC should do a recall for this. In order to get the problem fixed you have to take it to the dealer, it this is very expensive to have repaired.

The noise is unbearable, I am ready to trade my car in and never again purchase anything made by GMC. It sounds like car is about to blow up and the noise is very embarrassing, just like there is a wood pecker under my hood. To keep happy customers I think this should be put in to consideration.

Loud thumping noise seem to be caused by vent actuator(s) failing prematurely. Noise occurs periodically when environmental temperature control is operated and sometimes after start up! Noise persists for a few minutes then stops when car is running and even sometimes after I turn it off. I've always been a GM car owner but these defects are becoming too expensive for me to bear. I have faith that you will do the right thing.

The clicking noise on my 2009 Chevy Impala is very annoying, the problem started about three weeks ago and it seems to be a problem with these vehicles. I took my vehicle to my mechanic today and he suggested that I take it to a Chevrolet dealership, I believe my vehicle is out of warranty but it still has less then hundred thousand miles on it. I do believe the GM should fix this problem and make me a satisfied customer once again.

We as Americans would like to buy American-made vehicles and know that they will be reliable and dependable as possible, GM want Americans to buy the product but by God they should make a safe product that we can rely on to run and keep us safe on the roads and highways of America...

I have financed a 2009 Impala from a shady dealership. On the 15th day, which is the last day to take car back for full refund the noise started. It happened one day at work and I thought my car was going to blow up. I called the dealership and let them now about it, they said a lot of Impalas are known for doing this. The noise is beyond embarrassing. I took it into the dealership and they said it was one thing that did not make any sense and sent me home. I went again when the noise started going off more than once.

The noise was happening when I started up the car, when I move the heat nobs, when I turn the car off, when I hit the alarm and it goes off all day long even when there is no reason to. I went back to dealership where they said that the four motors had gone out. I was told they would be ordered one at a time, which was a lie. So long story short the problem never got fixed and I am still dealing with this annoying loud clicking noise. Somebody help!!!!!!!
