This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
I have a 2007 Chevy Impala. It is used as a police car for my local county. Since getting the car in may of 2007, the steering wheel has locked 4 times while turning a corner. The car has electric power steering vs. Hydraulic like most cars. The most recent incident, I nearly struck another vehicle due to not being able to steer. The wheel locks anywhere from 2-4 seconds, then it finally releases. I called the dealership, and they stated they have received several other complaints similar to this on some of Chevy's other models with electric steering. I have an appointment this week to get the problem looked at. However I feel this is a very serious problem and safety issue due to the fact of not being able to steer, and apparently it is not an isolated incident.
