While driving, my car gives a message of "reduced engine power" and completely shuts off...regardless of what speed I am driving. This has happened 3 times in the past 2 days. Very unsafe! I have read online of hundreds of this same type vehicle having this problem. Why isn't this a recall issue? I believe another car manufacturer had a similar issue with one of their accelerator parts and that company recalled and replaced these parts for no charge to the owner. I believe Chevrolet needs to do the same thing.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Impala. While driving approximately 60 mph, the reduced engine power warning light illuminated and the vehicle drastically reduced speed from 60 mph to 30 mph. The contact was able to coast the vehicle over to the side of the road and was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 34,000.
While driving my "service traction control" message came on followed by "reduced engine power". it slows down my vehicle and sometimes I cannot even accelerate when these messages appear. They always come on together and every single time I drive. Sometimes right away, sometimes after I've been driving for awhile. It use to not happen when I was using my cruise control but not even when that is on it happens.
At about 10 mph upon accelerating there is a growling noise and the ABS/traction control light comes on. This lasts for only a few seconds, but the car feels like it may not keep going.
While driving the traction control light comes on as well at reduced engine power. It drops the speed of the car down to 40 mph or lower. It does not accelerate easily when coming to a complete stop. This can cause an accident as I have had several near misses. The light will go off if you turn the vehicle off for a few hours but does end up coming back on.

Driving down road at 65mph when all of a sudden reduce engine power comes on and my car shuts off the cruise and I cant get the power up over 15mph on a major highway............
My in-laws were driving their car when suddenly the accelerator pedal was unresponsive. Luckily, they were not injured but were able to coast to a stop. They were towed to a service center where the accelerator pedal position sensor was replaced. Total cost was $317.41.part number 25830023 I retrieved this part and opened it up. I was startled to find that parts of the circuit board were never soldered. I am a licensed master electrician, have an aas degree in electronics technology and as a hobby have been doing automotive repair for 45 years. This part should never have left the factory. I contacted GM and they simply said the part is not on our recall list so we will not reimburse you or look into this any further. I have the part. I'm guessing there could be many more just like this. My in-laws are 80 and I'm pursuing this for them. They have sold this car. Thanks.

My wife's daily driver is a 2007 Impala. She was driving home with our three kids when the car started shaking and the reduced engine power display came on. After that she could only go about 25mph. This scared her and could have caused an accident. I looked online and found forums about a lot of people having the same problem and it pisses me off that GM hasn't recalled these vehicles. Does someone have to die before this situation is taken care of?
This car has less than 100K miles and Chevy dealerships refuse to diagnose the issue with the transmissions and there are multiple complaints about this issue this car is unsafe. The issue is random jerking of the transmission upon taking off in traffic, at light, or from stand still has caused: (a) my wheels to spin, (B) the car to pull into the next lane, (C) almost rear-end collision with car in front, and (D) sudden rapid acceleration in traffic. The car I almost rear-ended was a 2007 Chevy police Impala the officer exited his car asked was there a problem I told him about the transmission issue and he stated "yea mine does that too this car isn't a safe one" this need to be addressed nationally.
While I was driving an error message appeared on the panel "engine power reduced". the car immediately slowed down as if the engine had cut-off completely. It did not and I was able to drive to the side of the road at about 10 mph. Luckily it was late at night, the few cars that were driving near me were able to change lanes before a collision occurred.

Vehicle's transmission slips when accelerating, and also jerks when idling. This is a common issue that has been reported in multiple places by a large number of people. Issue has been increasing in frequency - making this car unsafe to drive, yet Chevrolet has not bothered to address the now obvious problem.

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Impala. While driving approximately 40 mph at 2,000 RPM, the contact released the accelerator pedal and the RPM immediately increased. Occasionally, the RPM will remain the same when pressure is released from the accelerator pedal. After the failure occurs, the vehicle will continue to accelerate for a few seconds. After a period of time, the RPM's will return to normal. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, but they could not determine the cause of the failure. The mechanic stated that there was not a solution to correct the failure. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 12,500 and current mileage was 14,900. (1) my wife pulled into a parking space at our church and applied the brakes to stop. (2) the car continued on rolling over a concrete barrier and knocking down an ornamental iron fence surrounding the parking lot and continuing out into the street where it finally stopped. In addition to the damage to the fence, there was considerable damage to the front of the car. (3) cause of failure has not been identified. On one or two previous occasions, when pulling the car into our garage I have had the car stall and then surge forward. Car is being taken to a body shop to repair the damage.
