This Impala has been so good to me, but it seems like everything is all of the sudden going wrong with it. I am 65 and depend on it all the time.

Impala LS 3.5L

Hi, its me again. My Impala 3.5 engine is leaking coolant in the back right side of the engine. I started to hear a sloshing water noise behind the dash. I said maybe I have air in the system. And boy was I wrong. When I added coolant it was a lot that had to go in. So I had it pressure checked and was told it is leaking coolant from timing cover housing and getting on the exhaust. That explains why I have been smelling antifreeze because it drips on the hot exhaust. So the repair cost is 1300.00 dollars because they have to take all the engine accessories offwhich is the ac, water pump, alternator, you get the picture. Wwhat a disappointment.

MY 2006 CHEVY IMPALA OVERHEATED ONE DAY. AFTER A QUICK INSPECTION I FOUND THAT IT WAS LEAKING ANTIFREEZE. COULD NOT TELL WHERE IT WAS COMING FROM SO TOOK IT TO A GARAGE AND $335.00 LATER, WAS TOLD IT WAS THE MANIFOLD CROSSOVER VALVE AND THE 2ND IMPALA THE GARAGE HAD THAT WEEK WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THREE DAYS LATER, ITS STILL LEAKING BUT NOW WORSE! IVE SPENT ALL KINDS OF MONEY ON DEX COOLANT AND HAVE TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE SHOP IN TWO DAYS! THIS IS RIDICULOUS! ALREADY HAD TO HAVE THE VENT VALVE REPLACED THREE WEEKS AGO FOR $105 WHICH IS ANOTHER COMMON ISSUE WITH THESE CARS. I DON'T KNOW IF THEY WILL FIND THE SOURCE OF THE LEAK AND HOW MUCH MORE IT WILL COST ME BEFORE IT IS FIXED BUT I CANNOT AFFORD TO HAVE A CAR THAT I CANNOT DEPEND ON AND THAT I STILL PAY A MONTHLY CAR NOTE ON! PLEASE G.M. SUPPORT YOUR CUSTOMERS.

I have the same problem. I think what giving me more of a hard time is that I just replaced the water pump, & now I have an upper & lower gasket problem. I don't know much about cars but when you smell a coolant leak on a 2006 Impala, there has to be a problem. Especially on a 2006 vehicle.

On my way home one day and all of a sudden my dashboard turns into MARDI GRAS! rockets popping, lights flashing, and bells clashing, no really it was (out of control) so after PCM v.095 alerted me to a cooling problem, I immediately pulled over onto the shoulder and exited the vehicle from the passenger SIDE. (car is roomy!) , popped the hood (with a mossberg!) and to my surprise the WATER PUMP! was leaking, now i live 16 miles from my workplace with a paid bridge crossing in between , so no doubt i was going home it was just how long did i have to sit on the expressway to let my engine cool (so i could open cool. cap) AND ADD some of the spare 8 qts of DEX-COOL that rides with me no matter WHAT! , so after i BABIED the vehicle home , o.k. people i leave work at 2:30 p.m this particular route is pretty swift on the NORM so you could say im home by 3:00----3:15 the latest (private parking) I GOT HOME AT 7PM thanks GENERAL for another shoddy part , because the one i bought at autozone is really holding up and it has A LIFETIME WARRANTY and IT WAS like $ 86 with the extra bottles of dexcool about 4 more (2 for spare) add another hundred still better than the general i guess in the end IM STILL DRIVING AND THE ARE STILL LYING....

Noticed a coolant smell everytime i would get out of the car but could not find the leak. then one day a saw a build up of coolant on the right side in the middle of engine.at first i thought that the engine block was crack were the coolant build up was. but turned out to be a small water pump leak. it was leaking on the drive belt and throwing it on the coolant fans and the under body of the hood you could see the trail it had made above were it was coming off the belt. i had a 2002 chevy impala with the crazy coolant gauge going past the middle and then it would go back to normal on the high way. the coolant used in these cars i do not care for because it turns into a brown looking globe and in the recovery tank of the 02 impala was real dirty. i noticed it getting dirty in the 06 LS impala i have now. so when i got this leak i did not put Dexcool back in it. I put a G-5 grade coolant that dodge, ford, and mercedes uses. so now i don't have to worry about it ruining my new water pump.

by the way the 2002 impala sucks my electrical system went haywire and i just ended up trading it for the new one. the new one is way better it is like they put a new project team on it but i have had my little share of problems out of it like the left outer ti rode and the transmission sometimes acts funny in the winter but it gets me from point A to B so i am thankful. It now has 86,000 miles on it. so she is doing good. Coolant brand i used was mopar red that is used. it is in the dodge charger and 300. very good coolant it is the highest grade out there.

I have a problem with the coolant leaking out and no heat in the car. Told me it could be the head gaskets, approx. $1700 to fix. Anyone else out there with this type of problem? My dealer seemed to act like it was normal on 06 chevy. What kind of pieces of junk are they building if they think its normal with less the 100,000 miles to have these kind of problems! Probably the last chevy I'll own and I've been a chevy man my whole life.

The coolant keeps leaking out of the car. It seems like a slow leak. My car was running hot i put in coolant and also some water. A week later the reservoir that i had filled up was empty again. I put more coolant and water now I see that there are leaks on my driveway every morning. From reading your comments I am now very concerned since I will be having a 2400 mile drive in a few weeks and I definitely don't have $1000 to have the gaskets and such fixed.....Is there still a class action law suit going on?
