Remove the fuel pump fuse, start the car till it dies, remove the throttle body and replacing this, made the car start better and removed putrid smell of gas on cold days.
Sometimes, not always, the car smells of gasoline, not exhaust fumes - gas. It is nauseating. I need to put down the windows in order to feel safe and be able to breathe. The smell comes into the inside of the car but can also be smelled from the outside of the vehicle.
There is an extremely strong odor of gasoline coming in from the heat and air vents inside the car as well as outside. It becomes stronger once the air and/or heater is turned on. The smell has become so strong, last week when I was commuting to work I had to pull over and vomit on the side of the highway. The smell is so unbearable
I'm not going to be able to drive it until it is fixed. It literally smells like a rolling gasoline bomb!
I researched this issue on the internet to see if anyone else has had this problem. To my amazement there are quite a few people that have reported the same issue. So many it looks like almost everyone that has this make and model of Impala has reported the same thing.
Based on what I have read, I am assuming at this point it is the fuel pressure regulator, but not for sure since I am by no means a mechanic.

A royal pain in the Butt! Had to buy two in 3 months because part is made in china. When is this country going to start building car parts in the U.S.A again! Anyhow, this did fix the gas smell issue.
This problem has been with us over 1 year. The smell of fuel is both on the inside and the outside of the vehicle. I replaced fuel filter but didn't resolve the problem
I bought my car used last year 2009, I bought extended warrant, I have had my car to the shop more than twice for the same problem the strong odor of gas and they seem to not find the problem, took it to another licensed mech. and she said that it's the fuel regulator, shouldn't they have checked that first, now back to the shop we go, this is driving me crazy and now I've had my car one hole year and still have the problem. I NEED HELP!!!!!!!!
