If the ignition switch was recalled why wasn't this replaced???? They put a "fix" in place to prevent whatever problem the recall was for but ever since they put in the "fix" we have had issues with the ignition switch and today it totally locked up and now i have to pay $600 out of my pocket to fix this damn thing. I've already spent more in fixing this car then i actually paid for the damn thing. and it cost me $8900!!! I've only had it for like 4 year... I don't have this kind of money. My husband and I both work 2 jobs to make ends meet and to constantly get set back even further to fix this car is ridiculous. Id get a new car but i cant afford it...
We also need to get the transmission replaced but definitely cannot afford that so at this point we are just going to nickel and dime until the car completely lets go or until we get another option. She has issues shifting automatically and slams into gear hard enough to jerk that car. Sometimes when we push the gas she stalls then jerks when she finally gets to the right gear... It is bad enough it almost causes us to wreck b/c of oncoming traffic, so now we have to wait until is completely clear on the off chance she stalls so we don't get hit. This car is beautiful but is such a POS...
One day just got into my vehicle, and ignition key would not turn, My son told me to press the brakes and it turned. This is annoying, you never know when it's going to turn especially, if you have to sit and wait until it does turn in order for you to start your vehicle. Pain in the A??. I was told I need to get another switch installed. Don't know how much that will cost.
I bought a used '05 Impala after owning an '02 model, which I loved. My husband noted that when he started it to test drive it, the key wouldn't turn in the ignition and handed the keys back to the salesman thinking that he gave him the wrong set. The guy compared the set to the only other Impala key he had and gave it back to my husband to try again. This time my husband pressed the brake before turning the key and the car started just fine. He thought that it was some sort of safety feature and forgot about it. I drove the car to work the next day and at lunch I went to start it without pressing the brake and it started. Later when it was time to go home, it wouldn't turn and my husband's words popped into my head and I pressed the brake but it still wouldn't turn. It took quite a few tries to get it to turn and eventually (it was 5 degrees outside) it did turn and it didn't seem to be sticky or obstructed in any way. In fact, the next time I shut it off and restarted it that night it turned and started just fine with or without my foot on the brake. I am starting to question my love affair with Chevys after reading about all the other people who have posted the EXACT problems (several to date) I am encountering with my newly acquired car and yet GM has seemed to ignore these serious issues as well as the one thing I consider to be the most important to me, the safety of my family.
My car is now parked at a grocery store because the key won't turn in the ignition. The traction system light came on on the way even though I did not skid or turn too sharply. Then when I go out to start it it wouldn't turn I could not shift of even turn auxillary on
My key will not turn my in my ignition! I used my primary key then my spare!! Neither worked!! I called Chevy and they told $510 to fix plus towing!! I called a friend who knows a mechanic that will do it for $350! It is crazy...when I googled it I found I was not the only one w/ the problem! Anyone hears of Chevy doing a recall please let me know.
