GM WAS WELL OF THE PROBLEM WITH THE IGNITION SEVERAL YEARS AGO. THIS PROBLEM HAS CAUSED DEATHS. HOWEVER, AT THIS TIME THEY ARE ONLY RECALL A FEW MODEL SUCH AS THE COBALT. IF YOU SCAN THE INTERNET YOU WILL SEE THAT THE IMPALA HAS HAVE THIS PROBLEM ALSO FOR YEARS. THE FIRST TIME I EXPERIENCE WAS 2009, THE DEALER REPLACED THE IGNITION FOR AROUND $700. NOW I HAVE HAD IT HAPPEN AGAIN. I CALL THE GM HELP LINE AND THEY SAY I NEED TO HAVE THE DEALER DIAGNOIS THE PROBLEM WHY MY 2005 CHEVY IMPALA WILL NOT TURN ON WHEN TURN THE KEY TO ON.

My ignition started sticking, it would be hard to turn. then it wouldn't turn at all. I had to have a locksmith come to where my car was and my Guy stay up half the night waiting on him to have the ignition pulled completely out an the (tumbler?) can't remember what he called it) replaced, put back in, and now a year later it is already starting to do the same thing. GM has made many many great quality cars, what happened in 05 on the manufacturing line that this is such a piece of crap? Cars don't work without ignition to start and tranny to go.

I'VE HAD THIS CAR FOR 3YRS AND I'VE ALREADY HAD TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION, I'M HAVING STICKING IGNITION PROBLEMS AND I'M HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE TEMP GAUGE WHERE IT'S GOING OVER IN THE RED BEFORE AND AFTER HAVING THE WATER PUMP REPLACED.

Hallelujah!!! I thought I was the only one with this issue. I would have to turn it on and if it didn't work I had to turn the key back to start position and then turn on again and it would work. But this issue happens almost all of the time. I brought mine to the dealer they said had the car for about 4 days and came up with nothing. I finally got it back and then my ignition got locked up. The lights came on but the key wouldn't turn forward or backwards. Had it towed back to the same dealer on a Friday. Weekend passed and come Monday the key ignition worked. I was like what in the world is going on here. I'm went online and seems it could be the passlock or module. Who know's. I cannot tell you how happy I am to hear that someone else has this same issue and that i'm not cuckoo. GOOD LUCK with finding the cure for this issue. I will keep those with inquiring minds in the know.

This is an ongoing problem and has been since a month after I drove the car off of the lot.

The ignition to the Impala will stick and the car will act like it's going to start but won't. I have taken this car into four different GM dealers complaining about the problem and they all tell give me the famous line:

"WE CAN NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM"

One dealership has went as far as to tell me that I was not turning the key properly. I was not aware that the Impala required a special key turning technique. It's either that or every other car I've owned has had a really weird ignition problem (The car started the first time I turned the key). That I must've just had a really bad salesman who neglected to give me my key-turning class when I bought my car.

Okay, back to the problem. As I stated before, I have had this problem practically since I drove the car off of the lot. It has been looked at by many GM mechanics with no explanation. The car is almost out of extended warranty so I'm sure they will discover the problem soon. I'll keep everyone posted.

Also, I have e-mailed GM about this issue and have never had any response from them.
