This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
No accidents yet, but very easily could've been. Car stalls with no warning and sometimes doesn't want to start. Car has stalled 3 times - it happened twice shortly after leaving a stoplight, so 20-35mph and the third time was going 55mph down the highway. The two times it stalled at 20-35mph it started up right away. After it stalled at 55mph, it took 3-5 tries to get it started again. There have also been two other separate times that the car did not want to start. This happened after driving the car a short distance, about 5 miles, turning it off for 10-20 minutes and then it took 3-5 tries to get it started again. The security light did not come on when these incidents happened. Car does have 126,000 miles on it. Car is currently at the dealership and there is no code indicating what this stalling/no start problem is. This is the third day the car has been at the dealership and they still do not know what it is. The car has died once while at the dealership, but it started up right away so they couldn't do the test they wanted to do. This is ridiculous to have such a huge safety-related issue with no known cause/code and it appears from other complaints and automotive "chat rooms" I am not the only one with this issue and no resolution.
While cruising at 45 mph, the vehicle stalls and will not restart until after three to four attempts. Dealer is unable to diagnose the problem (vehicle is a police package, the township also owns a second 2001 Impala with the identical problems).
While driving at 55mph vehicle will automatically shutoff. Also, cruise control and other electrical parts will shutoff. Contacted dealer who could not remedy problem. Dealer replaced alternator, bad fuel pump wire and fuel pump, however problem still exists. Vehicle is still at dealership.
While driving the vehicle at 55-60 mph the vehicle completely shuts down. It gives no warning. Took the vehicle to the dealer a total of four times, and this fifth time consumer had the dealer come and pick the vehicle up for repairs. Nlm
