This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The service vehicle soon and low coolant level lights keep coming on. I had the radiator checked and there is nothing wrong with it. The light still comes on and so did the service vehicle soon light. Took the car back in again today to get it hopefully fixed. A sensor was shorting out for the driver display and replaced. I also had trouble last year with the directional signals going nuts. It was finally diagnosed as a faulty hazard switch that needed to be replaced.
Dashboard lighting failed to light up when car is started. Specially dangerous at night time, because this is also accompanied by failure of the tail lights to turn on. Head lights are not affected. There is no override to manually turn on the tail lights nor dashboard lights. Apparently there is a sensor that turns these lights on when car is started. This is a recurring problem. Again, specially dangerrous situation when driving at night because of no tail lights, and no way for driver to tell what is the dirving speed. Accident waiting to happen.
Electrical system - dashboard lights and other instrument lights do not turn on or will turn on only after several minutes of driving. Very inconsistent. Pose danger especially when driving at night. The problem appeared to have been fixed about a year ago, but the problem started to surface again recently (fall 2003).
Engine/trans partial failure, almost stalling in intersection. Instrument cluster had system managment lighting in dash flashing for no reason. Replacment of instrument cluster actually worsened uncommanded light flashing. Initial repair of engine problems diminished severity of stalling, however did not completely correct the problem. Unable to duplicate stalling on a consistant basis.
Scorched wires found under the dash, R-134A leaking into car from independant tester, daytime running lights occasionally, exhaust system damaged from excessive heatand fuel economy is only 10 mpg
Inhalation injuries occurred due to melting of wiring harness plastic, thanks to your web site a fire didn't happen. 3 different people have had effects from the melting insulation of the harness and the company cannot duplicate the response.
For no apparent reason while the vehicle was parked there was a fire in the dash area. Husband was able to put out most of the fire until the fire department arrived. Fire department stated that the fire appeared to be electrical. Owner not sure what will be done with the vehicle.
