The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet HHR. While driving various speeds, the vehicle failed to accelerate when depressing the accelerator pedal. Also, while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle would jerk. Furthermore, the electronic stability control (ESC) system and traction control warning indicators illuminated. The contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and turned the engine off. The vehicle was restarted, but the failures recurred. The contact was able to drive the vehicle home. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the ESC system failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000. The VIN was not available.
I was driving down the interstate at about 70 mph, when I began to get the messages service ESC ESC off, traction control of, engine reduced power and not to mention all my lights lit up like a christmas tree. Also when all of this started to happen my vehicle jerks reduced speed drastically and was shaking vigorously I hurry up and exited the interstate and turned off my vehicle I waited a few minutes and the vehicle started right up 3 miles or so down the road the exact same thing happened only this time I was turning unto a busy intersection and I was left stranded in the middle of the street because the car would not budge I had to end up getting it towed. This is something that it's very dangerous and if I would have had my kids with me I wouldn't be as calm as I am now. I am livid and outraged as to why this has not been recalled. How many complaints does it take until this type of situation gets addressed the way it needs to? now haven't spent over $600 my problem still exists but only now my vehicle is inoperable and parked. Please someone give us answers the correct answers the answers we've all been searching for and do the right thing.
It happens when the car is idling at a stop light or wherever it also happens when I'm driving. It gets a surge of power and starts running ruff. The car shakes all the lights on the dash come on, service ESC, service traction, ESC off, eng power reduced. At this point there is no power. I find a safe place to pull over and shut the engine off, wait a few minutes and restart the engine then it's fine again except the engine symbol stays on. The Chevy dealer hooked it to the computer and said it's misfiring on all four cyclinders, but they said they don't know what the problem is.

The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet HHR. The contact was experiencing multiple failures with the vehicle. The vehicle was previously repaired per a recall for the ignition switch; however, the repair was insufficient. At times, even with the key in the off position, the vehicle would not shut off. The battery would have to be disconnected to turn off the vehicle. The contact stated that the key did not remain in the ignition and he felt unsafe driving the vehicle. In addition, the driver side door handle was not working properly and was replaced twice by the dealer. The contact stated that the ESC (electronic stability control) indicator illuminated shortly after purchasing the vehicle. Each time the ESC indicator illuminated, the vehicle drastically reduced in speed. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The NHTSA campaign number was unknown. The failure mileage was 20,000.
While driving at a speed of 45 miles per hour, all of a sudden in the dic a ESC active started flashing and my car start losing speed and it felt like the traction kicked in. I immediately looked down to make sure it had not jumped out of gear. It was in the correct gear. The ESC active went away after about 45 seconds, and about a mile down the road it did the same thing again and I had to put on mu emergency flashers and pull off the road. By the time I got it to the side of the road, the steering wheel started to lock up and it act like it did not want to stop when I applied the brakes. By this time the speed had dropped to about 15 miles per hour. The road conditions when this happen was dry, and the tires and the brakes on my car was in good working condition. Once it was towed to my house I drove it around my neighborhood about 5 times and nothing happened. I am too scared to do in highway driving of this car, because if it happens while I am on the interstate driving I could possibility be in a accident if this happens. I have read other reviews about this happening, but have not got any reasons to why this is happening. The car has roughly 87570 miles on it. I will be contacting the Chevrolet people tomorrow, before I take it to a repair shop.

Was traveling at night on interstate 70 between Kansas City and St louis when the check engine light can on along with the traction control light at the same time the on dash message center said engine power reduced, traction control off, and ESC off. At the same time the car lost speed and before I could get off the road I was almost rear ended by a truck, at the time it was raining. Since then it has happened numerous times with no warning. After stopping the car with the engine off for a very short time it will start and run fine with the traction control light off. But the check engine light remaining on. The code for the check engine light is P2135 which is a code for the throttle pedal position sensor, this has been replaced and the problem remains to happening. I think this could be very dangerous and could cause accidents resulting in injuries. The vehicle has been to a number of mechanics and the problem continues. I spoke with GM this week and they said that they had never heard of the problem, I think they should look online you fill find many posting complaining of this problem covering many model years other than 2011.

Getting lots of error codes with no real cause as to why car stalls.

My tcn was [xxx]. this car is dangerous to be driving, cops have pulled me over several times due to some the problems! all 7 officers gave me their names and badge numbers N they told me if I need to take this to court, they will be N court.. they told me the car needs to be completely fixed or put N a different car and not this same make N model. My car continues to shake as do most HHR's GM knows there is a stability issue an has refused to properly address this dangerous issue. My airbag light has come on. The back driver side door handle does not open from the inside or out and my seat belt and back floor board stays damp making the structure of the vehicle dangerous and my seatbelt unsafe. GM executive response is that not all VIN numbers fal into the service bulletins. These cares need to be immediately investigated and taken off the market. The bolt covers in the back seats fall off at a touch and cannot be reattached. They dig into legs. An accident would present a stupid impalement threat. Why are they there. This is a dangerous car. GM states my care did not appear to them until 49,000 miles. I bought it at 19,000 miles. There are lies every where. There are crooked salesman and GM is still on the scam. Owners need a legal or congressional advocate for the cars we are stuck with that are dangerous and seriously devalued. They have had allot of training in dealing with owners with issues. We need likewise representation. My care is an accident waiting to happen. I have a frozen shoulder from holding it in the road for 3 years. It is a blood trap that you cannot see out of. It is damp, shaking, difficult to control and unpredictable. I could ot sel it in good conscience. Who would buy it any way" what happened to the legal order that required them to report dangerous problems in 5 days or face penalties" they are way over the mark on this one. Just look at my car.
The ECM came on with no warning causing the vehicle to veer off the road to the right and skidding this happened three times in the past year which is scary at best also there is a smell of exhaust and fuel in the cabin.
2011 Chevrolet HHR. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle acceleration issues. The consumer stated while driving, she noticed the vehicle exhibit a boost/jerk type movement, and it made a strange noise. When she took the vehicle to the dealer, she was informed the problem was a spark plug and they fixed it. However, one night while driving, the vehicle once again exhibited the same boost/jerk movement, as if she suddenly hit the brake, as the vehicle was losing speed, until it shut down completely. She was able to pull over, turn the vehicle off, and re-started it again with no problem. A month later, the same thing happened, only that time, the electronic stability control light started blinking, followed by a strange noise. The electronic stability control light illuminated again in May 2014.

I've a 3 yr old lil girl N if we have accident, someone will pay! the right front tire is wore on side only, front pops, motor shakes, and U can smell foul fumes comin N car. I wanted a Dodge truck, not the HHR cause I knew something was wrong wit the HHR, my uncle done the same thing N it never cld B fixed, so he got a truck. This needs to B fixed or put me N a truck, if have accident, there will B trouble. There's too much wrong wit this car, it needs to B totally recalled in my opinion, or lawsuits B piling up!! thank U N please respond asap, my lil girl life cant B replaced, or N E one else's life either.
Steering wheel began to shake violently, car pulled to left. Repeated visits and calls to dealership resulted in denial of problem until warranty ran out. After hydroplaning on a small puddle of water, ESC and service traction lights came on. Dealership "reset lights" car has continued to shake. Have put 3 sets of tires on car and 2 sets of brakes, one set of rotors and turned rotors. Dealership says this is normal. Only found out about ignition recall after calling to complain about light still on and yet another set of bald tires. Called GM and they offered rental car until ignition parts come in but will replace ESC sensor at my cost. No investigation as to stabilization issue of car or why it is chewing up tires and pulling to the left. The car is still unsafe. A google search will show many others are experiencing this same issue. Awaiting yet another response from GM. This car needs serious investigating. An accident is at hand. They only want to sell me tires and parts. The shake is dangerous and the ESC and traction is disengaged at present. GM has known about this problem. [xxx] at GM has been nice but not helpful. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
We are having problems with the ESC the car with the sliding marks on it. It seems to be either picking up something or just miss firing. We be driving along and the road is not wet and it activates. The car almost shut off completely. Taking it back this tuesdayapril 1, 2014 3rd time. We almost got killed two weeks ago from the same problem the car shut down and if the big truck was coming fast we would not be here. We had to pull to a side road and cut the car switch completely off and wait a few minutes and cut it back on. I do not need this problem with the amount of money I pay. GM we help bail you all during the depression what is going on. Also the dealership are not keeping records of the trips I made to them is this a sign of something new.
