While driving my HHR 2009 the power steering goes out and a warning come on .This has happened a couple of time before ,but today it happened 4 times while driving 30 miles bring my husband home from a rehabilitation hospital. This is a very scary and disturbing situation as I was driving up a Mountain .This car has so many problems and from what I am reading this is an ongoing problem with these cars. I bought this car new and it has been well taken care of .I keep reading that this can happen if the car was used to jump off another car ,It has never been used to jump off ,nor has it ever had to be jumped off .
Update from Oct 15, 2013: I had to drive 100 from home today to Nashville Tn ,ended up driving all the way home and up a mountain without Power Steering .What to do this car has been a constant headache.
While driving on the interstate the power steering failed! Called the dealership and was told to let it sit for 22 minutes and it probably will fix itself. Was described by service writer as a spike in electrical system and it would reset itself. I parked for 1/2 hr and it did reset however it has gone out three more times since Friday!
HHR has the same power steering issue that the Chevy Cobalt has. The Cobalt was recalled for this issue, but the HHR has not. It is ridiculous when a car with less than 45,000 has a major issue like power steering. I am disgusted and now I don't trust Chevy cars due to the HHR not being recalled. What else is out there on my car still to find out. I am going in and trade. Chevy should be ashamed.
Radio speakers (4) are needing replaced, clip on safety belt fell off, dashboard won't open unless worked with.
Not happy at all. Ordered power steering motor on ebay for 100.00 and had husband unscrew 2 bolts and put on a new part. Now, they say the code could be the whole column after we have replaced the motor. Codes are not defined enough for this vehicle area.
Looking for a sturdy car to pay for, not a piece of junk.
