This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Two issues: Key won't remove from ignition, searched google and got keys out. Second ; power locks, car won't unlock, not even with keys. So far, this has cost me $150
Stored car in garage from October 2020 to March 1 2021. When parked there was a fuel leak of 3-5 drips per second at LH rear wheel. When started and moved out of garage on March 1 there was a steady stream of fuel. The enclosed picture shows puddle of fuel under car after keying-off after the 40 foot move. Prior to garaging the car I contacted Chevrolet about the "very common" leak and was told to call my local dealer, all to no avail. I've been waiting to hear if the July 2020 NHTSA investigation will turn into a recall. When will a ruling be available? I'm at the point where I will be doing a shade-tree-mechanic repair in lieu of waiting on NHTSA. GM (Chevrolet) have been building cars for 100 years. The company knows many vehicles are driven in rust belt states. There is no excuse for fitting cheap un-coated mild steel fuel and purge lines to vehicles that operate in this environment. Note that this vehicle currently has a check engine light on. The code is for a purge system leak. I have found that the purge line running parallel to the fuel line is just as corroded as the fuel line. This is likely where the purge system leak resided. So this vehicle fails to keep liquid fuel in it's fuel line and fails to keep evaporative fuel in the purge system. Please let me know when the recall will be enacted so I can stop needlessly polluting the earth with hydrocarbons. I'd rather have Chevrolet foot the bill for the repair rather than me. Thank you!
I were driving it and he's just stop bullying and I will press all way down the gas always down to the flow in the pool again without the first time I did it and that's what happened
After the recall on the ignition switch and the key fob no longer worked, I started having problems with the drivers doors not locking properly. Several times I locked it and went on only to come back and not be able to get into car with the key. It took awhile for me to figure out that I have to watch the latch when I lock it and if it does not go down all the way, I have to unlock and lock again and pull the latch up and then lock the driver door from the outside. Always parked and out of vehicle. There is not just one date this happened. I have had to call for assistance to get in.
This issue involves a 2008 Chevrolet HHR with the base radio system. The main door mounted radio speakers stopped functioning in 2017. The A-pillar high frequency "tweeter" speakers continue to work but are unintelligible. With the main radio speakers out, two safety features no longer work; the seat belt warning chime and the onstar subscription safety service. I believe both these systems rely on the driver's side door mounted speaker. Other safety chimes, if any, would also be affected. This is not an isolated case as I personally know of other Hhrs with the same issue.
My repairs to my recall was not done correctly back when I had lived in New York at an albany, New York named depaula Chevrolet and two of the recalls I had called depaula Chevrolet about and I had told them that it was doing that problem and they had refused to correct the problem about I now presently reside in athens, ga as of today and so forward
Wed. Dec.21 car flooded when rained. Took to dealer was told over $4000 to fix. Rewiring, carpets ripped out and replaced need to be done. Checked online. Seems to be a common issue with this model. No recalls.could not afford so picked car up. If this is a problem that affects wiring (potential fire) does it not also affect brakes, steering, etc.is this not a hazard"car has less than 36,000 mls on it. Seems to me to be a defect in manufacturing as mine is not the only car that has this issue. Shouldn't manufacturer be responsible for this problem. A customer should not have to drive with their feet sitting in two inches of water while driving in the rain. Should they"
There are several blind spots in this car makeing it difficult to see cars on the side of you I have been almost hit 14 times in one day I almost hit a pedestrian on cross walk to the right side this car is so dangerous to me and others this car needs to be pulled of the the road car was in motion each time and on highway as well as town roads.
I am original owner bought in 2008. I have 38080 miles on my car and have to replace the gas tank. After filling my tank, I smelled gasoline for several days, when my grandson went underneath and felt the top of the tank and found it leaking, from the top connection. I am having it replaced, @ several hundred dollars and feel this is a very unusual for an 8 year old car.
I was turning left on the corner of my house, driving less than 15 mph and then the back glass of my car exploded without reason and the glass was destroyed in pieces. It was very scary because sounded a big an explosion
The electric power steering turned itself off mid turn causing a drastic understeering leading the vehicle into oncoming traffic, upon research I found that GM recalled the exact same steering components that failed in the HHR in other GM vehicles but not the HHR. If this does not warrant serious investigation what does. The second time this happened everything was fine as we were driving straight, the problem occurred when the electric power steering turned back on mid-turn causing my wife to over turn into someone's front lawn, had anyone been in the way this would have been tragic. We've been lucky this far but as we are a low income household we don't have the means to pay some dealer to fix this as they all say it's on us the owners to take care of even though it's the same defective equipment that was in vehicles like the cobalt and Pontiac lines, why hasn't there been a recall issued, this is a sever driving impairment that can cause accidents and GM doesn't seem to care due to it's an acceptable loss! no life is an acceptable loss, please address this issue as there are many complaints into this same issue in the research I preformed, by the way, why is it GM Canada issued a recall on this part for the HHR and not the us branch? our HHR is a 2008 with 66000 miles on it and the electric power steering is the issue.
