This is a security issue and Chevy's repair shop advised that the repairs done in 2012 would not have been the issue. They state not an issue followed by Chevy, nor will they confirm the issue was brought to their attention 2 additional times by me and fixed once. Did not fix at that time due to cost.

Researched problem on-line and the Chevy specialists' won't acknowledge the issue or a way to repair. Many others are having the same issue and not repairing due to cost. Come-on Chevy this is a bigger problem than the "little" door on the dash box opening.

Both my key fobs failed within months of each other. When opened up, you could see that the electrical component inside had simply lost their connection and needed re-soldering. I refused to pay for a new set of key fobs. This defect in workmanship should have been covered under the warranty since not having a key fob to unlock the car means that you MUST open the lock on the driver's side, get in and turn the ignition to deactivate the alarm. If you don't do that within a certain time, then the security lock takes over and you can't drive the car for a while. What a pain. This is completely impractical if you have little kids running in a parking lot. And, there is no way to deactivate the alarm system and just use the door lock the old fashion way.

I was fortunate that I live near the ASE testing center and a couple of the teachers made this their project. They simply re soldered the component inside the fob, put in a fresh battery and reprogrammed it for good measure (I don't think that was necessary, but they said they wanted to keep up their skills.) The key fobs have worked perfectly for years since then.
