After my son had electrical problems with his 2015 Equinox that he just purchased used from a private party, I did some research online and found a number of people with some real similar issues. He would be driving down the road and the radio would just cut in and out and things in the dash would not work. Sometimes the vehicle would not start (completely dead) after being turned off.

The only identifiable remedy was to open the door and slam it shut, sometimes once and sometimes a multitude of times, then it would start. He took it to a dealer twice that told him there was nothing wrong with the vehicle!!!!! (NO CODES). We took it into our garage and began to troubleshoot where the issue could be and found, after taking the cover off of the battery, that the positive cable of the vehicle was only sitting on the positive terminal of the battery and not tightened down! Once we tightened the cable to the terminal the problem was seemingly solved!!!

Auto mechanics should not only rely on the computer to analyze the vehicle and use some old fashion deduction to FIX problems so they are no wasting, not only their, but our time! To that end, I hope these other people check back and see how we solved our similar issue and can help them solve theirs.

Normally, if the driver's door is not opened when the engine is shut off while the radio is on, the radio will play for about five minutes and then shut off.

On at least 5 or 6 occasions over the past few days, while waiting in the car without opening the door, when the radio shuts off, the electrical system is completely dead, engine won't restart. Removing and reinserting the key is no help. Only solution found is to open and close the driver's door, after which the engine starts normally. No sign of abnormal battery drain.
