instrument panel illumination control Instrument panel illumination control knob only works partially in manual mode, i.e. you can turn it counter clockwise to dim the instrument panel lights to off but you cannot turn the knob clockwise to make the panel lights the brightest. An automatic dimmer turns the instrument panel lights to their brightest eventually in daylight and to dimmer setting supposedly after dark/dusk. I drive to work in the am starting in the dark but when it becomes dawn to daylight, I have to wait for the auto switch to turn on the bright setting for the instrument panel, which it does not do at daylight without direct sun, or in the rain, or in the snow, or at dusk or dawn, or anytime when I really need to see it and there is no manual Brightest control to override the auto dimmer non-feature.
HOW ABOUT A MANUAL INSTRUMENT PANEL SWITCH KNOB, LIKE THE ONE THAT IS ALREADY THERE, THAT CONTROLS FROM OFF TO DIM TO BRIGHTEST, AND ELIMINATE THE AUTO DIMMER BRIGHTEST SWITCH THAT NEVER WORKS WHEN IT'S NECESSARY?
1] IS IT POSSIBLE TO DISABLE THE AUTO DIMMER SWITCH TO MAKE IT MANUAL TO BRIGHTEST?
2] WHY NOT?
3] WHAT PURPOSE DOES THE AUTO DIMMER SWITCH SERVE OTHER THAN TO PREVENT SEEING THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INFORMATION CLEARLY AT BRIGHTEST WHEN IT'S MOST NECESSARY FOR SAFETY, SPEEDO, TIME CLOCK, DISTANCE, NAVIGATION, TEXT INFO, AND EVERY OTHER COMMUNICATIVE REASON/PURPOSE?
4] I AM A SENIOR CITIZEN WITH SIGHT ISSUES AND NEED TO CLEARLY SEE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL TO DRIVE SAFELY. WHEN I HAVE SUNGLASSES ON FOR EXTERIOR DAYLIGHT, I CAN BARELY OR NOT SEE PANEL INFO. WHAT IS THE POINT OF THE AUTO DIMMER WHEN I COULD SIMPLY MANUALLY TURN THE BRIGHTNESS DOWN AT NIGHT?
5] IS THERE A SERVICE REPAIR POSSIBLE AT THE DEALER TO FIX THIS PROBLEM? WHY NOT?
6] IT IS ALSO VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR ANYONE 6' TALL OR TALLER TO SEE THE TOP LINE OF THE RADIO INFO WHICH CONTAINS TIME CLOCK AND REQUIRES ONE TO BEND DOWN AND LOOK UNDER THE SHROUD TO SEE THE TOP LINE . 7] I HAD TO STOP WEARING BIFOCALS AND TRI=FOCALS SO I COULD SEE THE DASH IN ADDITION TO DISTANCE WITH MY GLASSES. WEARING SUNGLASSES IN EARLY SUNLIGHT LIKE ONE EXPERIENCES DRIVING INTO THE MORNING SUN OR SETTING SUN MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE THE DASH IN DIMMER MODE INSTEAD OF BRIGHTEST AND ITS NOT SAFE TO BE SQUINTING AND MOVING ONE'S HEAD TO DO SO IN TRAFFIC.
Why not simply change the control switch to total manual so the driver can make it dim to off and back to total brightest, like the volume switch on the radio, or the wiper switch on the stalk or the manual outside headlights? This should not cost Chevy to eliminate the auto dimmer but should save money for eliminating this uselss "feature".
I actually love the car except for this major illumination issue which seems insoluable. Next time I'll buy a car after testing a friend's in the dark. Your MY LINK info is large and legible, just not driver's information like speedo etc. Thanks
