So: I bought this Equinox in Jan 2021, so it was 7 years old and had 125,000km or 78,000 miles on it but by and large it was working great and came with a warranty. However the fuel economy is trash. On open highway I can occasionally get 35-40 mpg , but I typically get about 28-32mpg on open highway.
In the city however, if I dedicate all my focus to maximizing fuel economy using the fuel economy display and concentrate on driving as smoothly as possible 100% of the time. I can get maybe get it to 14mpg but that's only if I am really focused on avoiding unnecessary acceleration or braking at all times. If I drive naturally in city in average traffic not gridlock - while not in a particular rush I get 9-11mpg. It's always been like this, I had a 2013 equinox that was written off when someone ran a red and hit me. It was just the same. Trying to determine if that's the experience of all drivers of older Equinoxes.
This car was rated at 24 mpg in town and 32 mpg on the road. I have kept records of every gallon of gas I have put into this vehicle and my overall mileage is 21.1 mpg. The best mileage I have gotten on a tank of gas is 26.00 and that was on a trip to Arizona in Dec of 2014. On that trip to Arizona, I drove 3007 miles and used 128.88 gallons of gas which computes to 23.33 miles per gallon which is a long way from the 32 that is advertised. I am really not satisfied with the vehicle for this reason. I took to shop and they told me that there was not codes in it so they could not do anything to it.
No matter what we try the mileage rarely gets to the minimum 22mpg it touts. I expected it to be alright with a little driving. It has never got above 21.75mpg. I went to the dealership and was talked to like I had never worked on a car or didn't understand how things worked. After that he offered to let me speak to the GM. It has been disappointing to have a vehicle that gets the same mileage a 2002 Impala got with over 140,000 miles.
