On June 8, 2019 my family and I were driving on a busy highway when it started to rain very heavily. About three minutes into the rain storm the front windshield wipers abruptly stopped working and stuck in the middle of the windshield. I had zero visibility and came very close to crashing into another vehicle. I was able to pull over and wait for the rain to pass. It took me two hours to get home because I had to constantly find places to pull over and wait for the rain to subside. Usually it only takes about 25 minutes to drive home from this destination. It was a horrible experience and we came close to seriously being hurt or killed directly because of the wiper failure and the zero visibility due to the heavy rain. I did some investigation and found where GM had to recall the 2013 Equinox and GMC terrain models due to windshield-wiper failure. I took our Equinox to our local certified GM dealer for inspection and repair of the wiper on June 11, 2019. The service technician showed me that the wiper transmission arm had broken off of the wiper motor. This is the exact same cause of failure that led to the recall of the 2013 Equinox model. Our GM dealer told us that no official recall had been issued for our 2014 Equinox. GM needs to recall the 2014 Equinox model for the same wiper failure of the 2013 Equinox model!!! the 2014 Equinox models were released in the year of 2013. They have the same wiper model on them as the 2013 models. I have the official repair invoice with the description of the wiper failure diagnosed by our GM service dealer. I also have in my possession the failed wiper motor assembly that was removed from my Equinox. My family and I beg you to please investigate these faulty windshield wipers on the 2014 Equinox and require GM to recall this model.

Takata recall. On 5/9/2019 I was driving 4 1/2 hours from my home to a cabin for a MINItrip. It was sunny up until about an hour into my trip then sudden rain started pouring. I turned my windshield wipers on and within a matter of seconds they malfunctioned and stopped to the left side of my vehicle, hanging almost off of my vehicle. I was going approx 70 miles an hour on the interstate in the pouring rain when they malfunctioned and I couldn't see anything in front of me. I had to try to get to the side of the interstate before I hit something but that was hard to do because I had no visibility of what was in front of me.

Wipers failed while driving on an interstate freeway. Heavy rain, wipers were on at highest speed setting when something audibly snapped and wipers extended off the windshield on the drivers side of vehicle. Visibility was greatly reduced to the point that the vehicle was unable to be driven.

I was driving down the expressway during a thunderstorm when all of a sudden my wipers stopped. I proceeded to the median to try to see fix the problem. Then I drove cautiously to the next exit. I could hear the wiper motor going but the wipers it self would not work. It was a very dangerous situation an as I see this is a huge problem with equinoxes.

I was driving in the highway during a ice/rain storm when my windshield wipers stoped working causing a serious hazard situation. GM has to start fixing this problem before someone causes an accident and someone dies beacuse of this. Hope something gets done quick.

Driving 45 mph down a street in a downpour at night. No streetlights on the road. My wiper arms both stopped moving. Immediately lost ability to see the road while traveling at a good speed. Was able to veer toward the middle of the road and slow down to 5 mph, where I was then able to see the road again. Had to drive 6 miles at 5 mph to get home. Took car to dealership next day and droped it off. Told them the problem. Wiper transmission broke. Extended warrentee took care of the replacement. But this car only had 50K miles on it and its not been driven hard. Very unnerving to have something break that isn't used so often. Seems like a lot of these wiper transmissions break. Recall soon??

Mid November 2018, my windshield wipers stopped working. I am a nurse in a cardiac catheterization lab, my pager had gone off, so I actually was driving on my way to the hospital for someone having a heart attack when this happened. It was pouring down rain, I was on a highway bridge with no shoulder, when my windshield wipers just stopped working. They were working when I left my house. The rain was coming down hard, so when my wipers suddenly stopped working, I panicked. I nearly hit a nearby car because I could not see through the downpour. Once I got off the bridge, there was a shoulder to pull off to. I turned my car off, got out to see if something had got caught in the wipers, nothing. I restarted my care to see if the wipers would work, they wouldn't. luckily, I have a coworker who lives a little further than me who would be coming down the same route who was able to pick me up to get to the hospital. It was no longer raining when I later that night, was dropped back off at my car. The wipers still did not work. I thought, maybe a fuse or something blew. That didn't seem to actually be the problem after further research and assessment. I replaced the fuse, they still didn't work. I could move the windshield wipers with them off, which seems to suggest that the linkage is broken or the motor is not working.

The windshield wiper transmission arm has become disconnected from the wiper arms. There is a recall on 2013 models. Obviously there's a problem with this year also. The vehicle was in the driveway, my wife put the wipers on, heard a bang noise and the wipers stopped moving.

I was driving at 45 mph on a 4 lane road during at night during a bad rain storm when the windshield wipers stopped suddenly with no warning at all. Had to pull off the road and put the emergency blinkers on. This was very scary and an extremely dangerous situation. Waited on the shoulder of the road until a police officer arrived and escorted me to a parking lot; she said it was too dangerous to stay on the shoulder on such a busy road. The car has about 75,000 miles and has been regularly serviced at the dealers since its purchase. The dealer replaced the front wiper assembly at a cost of about $400. I assumed that this was a manufacturers defect, since the car is only 4 years old but the service manager said it wasn't, and there was no recall for this problem. If it wasn't a defective part, is this something I can expect to recur every 4 years?? I have received no good answers from the service manager. But I went to the web and found a couple dozen pf reports for this exact problem with this car (). I've never had the wipers just stop working like this on any car I have ever owned in my 50 years of owning cars. This defective front wiper assembly needs to be addressed as a safety issue and other motorists warned of the danger.

While driving down the highway in a rain storm the driver side windshield wiper suddenly stopped working forcing me to find a safe path off the road and pull over until the storm stopped. Upon inspection it seems the ball joint popped off the plastic bushing causing the driver side wiper to not move.

Driving in very heavy rain around 5:30am, so also very dark out. Windshield wipers on auto, medium-high speed. Going around 30mph and hear a moderately loud "clunk" come from area in front of dashboard and steering wheel. Suddenly my wipers no longer worked, and within seconds it was impossible to see out of my windshield. I had to litterally stick my head out of my driver side window and look for a side road/driveway to pull over at, not easy in the dark with heavy rain. Turns out the sound came from just under my wiper arms, which became disconnected from the wiper motor, as the linkage arm popped off at one of the plastic bushing ball joints. I was driving on a well-paved city street, with no harsh bumps or pot-holes, linkage arm disconnected just from use of the wipers. Thankfully I wasn't going 75mph on a highway or this could have been far worse. I had to sit on the side of the road and wait for a friend to come pick me up, car was left there until that afternoon when it was daylight out and had stopped raining. After inspection, I was able to manually move my wiper arms, my first sign that they were no longer connected to anything. I've tried a couple different plastic bushing replacements, none of which lasted longer than a day before the linkage arm fell off again. I am currently being "forced" into buying a whole new wiper transmission. Not pleased, this massive safety issue is costing me money to fix, and not even permanently as a new wiper transmission will likely have the exact same issue. And, the only time this linkage issue will occur and cause a failure, is when I need the use the wiper to actually see.
