For the last 15 years or so I have been purchasing vehicles outright so I wouldn't have a car payment but this year I decided to buy something newer so I wouldn't have to keep fixing vehicles. I have poor credit so I went to DriveTime and purchased a 2013 Chevy Equinox in May 2017 and purchased the extended warranty which I have a $100 deductible. Yesterday driving in the pouring rain with the wipers on full speed they just stopped in mid air, which seems to be a very common problem with this vehicle. I really wouldn't be so pissed except for the fact that this is just 1 of the numerous problems I have run into in the 2 months I've had it including my headlight being out this morning! Last week I had to charge the A/C, it wants to putter when it's idling and sometimes starts hopping forward like it wants to drive on its own, it makes a weird clunky noise when starting, the usb port doesn't work, the hands free doesn't work for sh*t and constantly misunderstands what I'm saying, so THANK YOU SO MUCH DRIVETIME! Now I have a car payment and a car I have to constantly FIX! I have not idea if this wiper thing is even covered under the warranty but even if it is I have pay the $100.00 deductible and leave it with the mechanic with no CAR TO DRIVE TO WORK OR MY 5 KIDS TO SCHOOL! When I bought it I was told the only recall was a little piece on the windshield wipers to change out, well it sounds like the whole wiper system needs to be recalled!

I am 58 years old and have had several new cars and have never had anything like this happen. I was riding down the road in torrential rain, I heard a loud BAM under my hood and then my windshield wipers stopped working hanging off the car!!! I was petrified. Can you imagine riding down the road at 65 mph in pouring rain and your windshield wipers nearbout fly off your car?!! I had my son with me. Thankfully I was in the far right lane and could pull off the road. I'm amazed no one hit me. They drive like lunatics here. I pulled up so I was under an overpass and waited for 45 minutes for it to slow down enough I could get to the nearest Advance Auto. The drive seemed to take forever! I had to drive really slow because the rain was not going to let up for hours and my son had an appointment. I drove on the side of the road almost all the way there. REALLY amazed I didn't end up with a flat tire!! The AA guy came out, looked at my windshield wipers and informs me I have to change the whole unit...WHAT?!!! Are you freaking kidding me!! How much? $300-$400... I was speechless?!! Said I would have to go to the dealership for the repair. A car payment and then that kind of repair bill on a vehicle that is only 3 yrs old!! You make a great car then put some stupid plastic in it that you can't just replace those but the WHOLE THING!!! I checked online to see if someone had a solution other than that expensive repair and I was AMAZED at the people that were having the same problem. Too bad they have not put their complaints here...it would probably crash the website. They should do a recall on this. I'm totally disgusted. I LOVE my car but this takes the cake. I will think long and hard before buying another vehicle from them.

My vehicle is nearly 4-years old. The engine has been completely rebuilt (under warrant thanks to a service memo), dash board controlling heat and air conditioning and radio went dead and now the windshield wipers stopped working. I had been driving through a storm on the highway with the wipers on full speed. I came off the expressway and was in my subdivision a block from home when the wipers stopped. I couldn't see and pulled over to the curb until the rain let up. If I were on the expressway I would have been involved in a serious accident.

I traveled to Cape Cod, Ma on Friday, September 30 for a CWU State Assembly meeting to be the Guest Speaker. I left Barnstable, Ma at 9:00am and was traveling down RTE 25 to travel to Kingston, RI for the MA/RI State Assembly. I am the Regional Coordinator of the Northeast Region. I was schedule to arrive to present an award to a member of that unit. It was raining very very hard on the highway. All of a sudden while driving on a packed highway and heavy rain. The wiper blades stopped in the middle of the glass. I could not see a thing. I panicked and so I had a hard time pulling off the hgwy to break down lane because I could not see.

Once I finally made it to the break down lane I called GEICO. I waited 60 minutes before a tow truck arrive. He finally arrive and got lost getting me to a local dealership. When I finally arrived at Tracy Motors the service department was closed and no one could help me. The tow trucker driver towed me to Marty's and they took the time to help me but did not have the part. I would have to wait until Monday. So I had to risk driving again in heavy rain. The service manager told me to stay at a local hotel down the street because it was not safe to drive to RI or anywhere. I got so nervous that I could not see so I pulled over and flagged a policeman to help me. He called a tow truck who again towed my car for $110.00 dollars to the Hampton Inn, Plymouth, Ma. I booked a room overnight for $237.14. I worried all night because I was officially stranded either until Monday or until the rain stopped.

I missed TRAVELING TO RI AND MY MEETING AND SPENT A LOT OF MONEY BECAUSE I WAS STRANDED IN PLYMOUTH,MA. Officer Powers was very nice to me and gave me a ride in the police car to the Hampton Inn. The faulty wipers are dangerous and I could have gotten killed on the highway when they stopped working. The fact there is no fix is ridiculous.

I MUST BE REIMBURSED FOR ALL MY EXPENSES IN THE AMOUNT OF $805.58. I have all my receipts and will demand reimbursement because I was literally stranded and missed a very important meeting.

Very unhappy with Chevrolet. This is the second serious recall problem with my car. I had the powertrain replaced in June and that took weeks before the dealership had my car repaired.

VERY UNHAPPY!!!!!!

Driving home Thursday in a downpour and my windshield wipers stopped working while they were at the top of my windshield. I had to drive home in the rain with no wipers. I took it to the dealership today and was told it is the wiper transmission and my extended warranty does not cover the repair. (NATURALLY!!!) The out of pocket cost is $393!!! I'm sorry... but a 3 year old car SHOULD NOT be having this issue. I have had this car at the dealership multiple times since purchasing it last September. Did I mention it is consuming oil like a junkie?!?!

I am adding 2 -3 quarts of $10 Dexos oil in between each oil change. And I have to log a consumption chart for 5000 miles before they will even consider looking into it. This will be the very last Chevy I own. I wish I had known Equinox are pieces of crap before I bought it. Live and learn.

My wipers stopped in the middle of my evening commute in the rain. I was lucky enough, I was able to pull off the road with some scary maneuvering to move the wipers from obstructing my view. Then I had to take the longer route home, so I would be able to stop along the way as the rain built up so I could wipe it off. This was an extremely unsafe situation with rain and night glare. I am thankful that I was the only one in the car at the time. I have read numerous stories of many others( this site and nhtsa site) that had even scarier situations (highways, construction zones, etc). Because of timing and the urgency of the need with the safety issue, I was forced to go to the dealership and pay much more than I would hope a more reasonably-priced mechanic would charge. I voiced my concern to the dealership on just over a 3-year-old car having this known problem. (On the first page of complaints on nhtsa site: 7 out of 25 complaints (28% of complaints) were for this problem for this model year.)

I am not the type of person who shares complaints or stories in this type of forum but I feel this is a real safety concern that Chevrolet isn't addressing effectively. In the scope of the general automotive world, I've never heard of this type of problem before this happened. I also surveyed co-workers and friends and no one there had heard of it either. There was no prior warning of this issue potentially happening, so the safety issue is even more. I am concerned for others safety so that is why I am speaking up on this issue.

i have 2013 chevy equinox. the wipers would not come on in the morning. i took it back to dealership where i purchased it. they told me it was the motor in the wiper blade and they kept my car for a day and half. they returned my car to me yesterday. i go to turn on the wiper blades this morning and they still didn't work. i called them back. they checked it and told me it was the wiper linkage..now they want to charge me $278.00 for this problem. they said it wasn't covered under warranty. the supposed wiper motor that was covered under warranty after i paid the $100 deductible was covered. i called back to the dealership and spoke to Kathy. she informed me that it was the motor and the wiper linkage. i don't believe that the motor was the problem because the motor was still running in the wiper blade when you turned them on ..the wiper just wasn't moving. I have never buy another car from the dealership again. I will be taking my vehicle elsewhere to have it fixed...

July 7, 2015 - I was driving my aunt and mother to a funeral approximately 100 miles from where they live. Halfway to our destination, the wipers suddenly stopped working. It was raining so hard that I had to immediately pull to the side of the expressway. I then had to find a dealership in an unfamiliar area. We arrived at the funeral an hour late and had missed most of the funeral.

While driving at 70 mph on a highway, passing another car, my wipers suddenly stopped working, leaving me with minimal visibility. VERY lucky to not have wrecked as I tried to pull the car off the road.

The wiper linkage separated - plastic nub came out of the plastic bushing. Either the parts weren't designed with the proper fit, weren't to spec, or the wrong plastic was specified. No way the car should have this happen after 3 years with infrequent wiper usage.

Other makes/models have an aftermarket linkage clip available to prevent this from happening again - Chevy does not for my vintage. The potential severity of this issue (huge safety problem) should warrant a recall. I have yet to see a TB or Recall for newer Chevys.

As I headed onto the main highway out of town, the rain started to pour so I turned the wipers to high speed. They stopped in the fully vertical position, blocking my vision and not cleaning the windshield. I had to carefully maneuver through traffic from the far left lane over to the shoulder on the right with very poor visibility. This could have been a very serious situation.

Checked the fuses but they were fine. When the rain quit, I manually cleaned the windshield and limped back to the nearest GM dealer.

I was told that the wiper transmission assembly needed to be replaced and the parts needed to come in over night - meaning that I had to spend the night in a local hotel.

Worse - when I looked on the internet it appears that this is an ongoing issue with the Chevy Equinox! Why has there been no recall?

Our company chose these vehicle for our fleet so I expect we'll see more of the same.
