With the dip stick out of the engine overnight and checking the oil in the morning: Insert the dip stick into the tube down to the lowest part of the yellow plastic containing the "O" rings. The reading is up to the full mark on the dip stick. Oil and filter was changed 500 miles ago. That narrow yellow section of the dip stick with the "O" rings is ¾ of an inch long. So, how much oil/liquid (fuel) would it take to overfill the crankcase ¾ of an inch? The vehicle has 15,000 miles on it now, not noticing any timing chain noise on start-up yet. But certainly the dilution of the lubricating oil must be taking a toll on the innards of that engine. The dealership had replaced the high pressure fuel pump at the 8800 mile mark. The most recent UOA found 4.3% fuel. The service department's answer is: "The oil lubricated parts of the engine are covered for 100,000 miles." The insinuation being, if the engine dies before that it will be repaired under the warranty. But why wait for the destruction of an engine if it can be repaired now? Just another hassle to go through. The service department apparently doesn't know what's happening inside the engine and therefore has no plan of action to save it. The pump was changed because of a Blackstone oil analysis showing 1.8% fuel in the oil sample with 1500 miles on the oil. The viscosity levels were pretty low and they recommended changing the oil soon.
The next oil analysis with 1300 miles on the oil showed low viscosity levels once again but with only 1.3% fuel.
This last analysis with 3400 miles on the oil showed 4.3% fuel and low viscosity numbers again.
Brought this to the attention of the dealer and they sold me an oil change. That’s all they did.
The vehicle build date is December 2012, so you would think by then the fuel pumps would have been modified. Don’t know what the engine build date is.
There is only about 500-600 miles on this last oil change and like I wrote earlier, the dip stick shows full without inserting it all the way in. Just inserted it to where the cable and the yellow plastic meet.
There have been 6 oil changes done in one year and 15,000 miles.
