Have to agree...Car just stopped working. Figured it was battery right away. Took off the entire box setup above battery which is crazy how it sits on top of the battery but it also covers any possible issues you have in seeing any corrosion build up on top of the battery. Cleaned off corrosion only to find that the positive terminals on battery were completely gone. I may be able to salvage battery but with that much corrosion more than likely not.

This is by far one of the WORST cars I have had to deal with when it comes to just changing the battery or being able to see that my battery had that much corrosion built up on it. Their are no maintenance guidelines when it comes to batteries as such unless you want to spend nearly $100 dollars just to get a dealer technician to look at your battery because it requires over an hour to mess with. IF the battery explodes for whatever reason because you don't see the corrosion build up or if your alternator is putting out too much amps and it causes the battery to expand and it blows up not only do you lose a battery and one hell of a mess but potentially an entire computer system to your car which in turn instead of being just a simple battery replacement is now a $2000 plus job because you have to replace the entire ECU. Who the frats thought of this design??

battery cover design defect causing failure battery cover design defect causing failure

The battery area on our 2013 Chevrolet Equinox has what I believe to be a design flaw that directly causes the battery vapors omitted from the battery to corrode and lead to a direct failure of the battery cable terminals (which obviously are only available from the dealer. When you look at the enclosed pictures you see that battery is covered with a large black plastic cover. On top of this cover is the ECM (a very strange place to put it...heat/temperature issues/built-in obsolescence) that overlaps the battery and the plastic cover with three large cables attached to that. The vapors that are naturally omitted from the battery have no place to go, therefore leading to a guaranteed corrosion build-up and failure of the battery and it's cables/terminals.

I and my local AAA repair mechanic really feel that this lead to my battery cable/terminal corroding and the battery failing costing me almost $400.00 that the dealer would not cover or the extended warranty (because the battery failure was caused by the corrosion build up on the terminals). Which you can't see at all because of the ECM and plastic cover blocking 100% of your view.
