Equinox LT 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 68,000 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

The timing chains were replaced under warranty as the 2.4 has MANY problems. Even with the "fix" during startup for 10 or more seconds the engine runs super loud and it clearly is the timing is off.

Even the fixes for this engine are terrible. Just a flawed product.

Equinox LTZ 3.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 80,000 miles

Bought used at 54,000 miles, drove up to 80,000 miles and found it falling apart piece by piece. The Engine control module went bad, causing the drivetrain to jerk, jump, rattle and roll getting up to 60mph, so that was replaced for $1,000. Not 4 weeks later, we began hearing a grinding noise in the front of the vehicle so we brought it in to find the transfer case and transmission needed replacement. After spending $1,000 on the ECM, and then being told I am looking at roughly $3,000 for a new transfer case and transmission rebuild, I traded it in. Chevrolet was of no help with only being a few thousand miles out of the warranty for the ECM, but still within the 5 year range. GM will never get business from me again.

Equinox LT2 2.4L 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50,000 miles

There are many complaints about this particular problem. The noise is on startup and goes away within a minute. It's a fluttering or growling noise under the hood on cold start-up at idle and when backing out of the driveway. I thought it was internal engine problem but after an engine rebuild the noise remained. Even though the belt looked fine I changed it myself and the noise is gone.

Equinox LT 3.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 33,000 miles

The thing that I learned is to read all the small print on your basic 100,000 mile drivetrain warranty. When you hear the word drivetrain you assume this would cover wheel bearings. In the fine print it excludes wheel bearings. GM has their own meaning of drive line.

A wheel bearing should last a lot longer than 32,000 miles under normal driving conditions. Working on vehicles most of my life I do know that stuff happens. But in past experiences with other manufactures they at least helped with the cost. It's not the $100.00 that bothered me, it was the attitude of GM seeming to convey they didn't care.
