It seems that MANY people have this complaint about the Equinox from 2010-2014,. The insides of all the doors rust. We called Chevy and they were willing to split the cost of the repair. They state it costs $2500 to fix this. So we would have to pay half. Well, we took the car to three separate auto body spots and had estimates for all under $1100. This is less than our half would be. So Chevy inflates the cost so they really have no expense. We will never buy a GMC car again after this. Very dissatisfied with customer service.

We just purchased this vehicle on July 17th, 2015. Obviously this vehicle is going on six years old but a paint job shouldn't have problems already. I looked at a different Equinox of the same year and it also had this problem. I like the vehicle a lot but it has already had three recalls and the paint job should be the fourth. General motors needs to stand by there vehicles and fix this. They had a problem with paint peel in the late 80's so shouldn't have let this happen. Step up to the plate GM!

Upon washing my vehicle yesterday I noted 2 small rust spots starting on my back tailgate of my 2010 Equinox. Upon speaking with the dealer they said it would not be covered under warranty as it was "my problem" however they did disclose that they have seen this on a few SUVs now and it appears to be a design problem as rocks are kicking up from underneath and hitting the door - not sure how the hell that happens! They said mud flaps would not help either. So I called Chevy Canada to get their take on it and they too said it was not covered under warranty but that they would call the dealership to see what they "could do, but no promises". Now my vehicle is less than 2 years old and doesn't get driven a lot, and is protected most of the day in the garage so someone please tell me how paint begins to rust this quickly! I've talked to a few people who say that there is something wrong with the undercoat or clearcoat because that is way too quick to be rusting - I totally agree! So my question is this, if the dealer is disclosing that this is a design flaw in the vehicle then why am I on the hook for the cost of the repairs? And I know how this is going to go because I've seen it before in another Chevy vehicle I owned...they sand down the spots, re-paint it and then a year later I'm revisiting the problem again and this time it is starting to spread. So once it starts I'm screwed unless they replace the back door! Someone needs to own up to either the design flaw or the quality of the paint process, because neither of these are within my control. I buy a vehicle based on recommendations (including design) and these are endorsed through the dealership so someone has to step up and admit there is a problem. I see I am not the only person having a rust problem on my new vehicle.
