My 19 year old daughter was driving home from work at approximately 11 pm on Sunday, October 5, 2014 on a straight street going approximately 40 mph in our 2007 Chevrolet Equinox when both the driver & passenger side air bags deployed for no apparent reason. It scared her half to death, and luckily she did not get in to an accident. I called our local Chevrolet dealership to report the issue & request service. I was told that there were no recalls & that I should file with my insurance company. I contacted my insurance company & was told no collision, no claim. I then went back to the service manager & he proceeded to tell me that the car probably thought it was going to tip over--really" long story short, I have called GM product department & filed a claim with them, and the dealership has had my car for over a week, and they have not heard from GM. I was told by the product specialist that an inspector was going to check the car & let me know what the computer says of why the air bags deployed. I have never heard of such a thing, and they are saying it happens all the time especially in SUV's. I have owned an SUV since 2005 & have never experienced an issue with the air bags deploying without a collision. I would like to know if this has happened to any one else & how I can handle this malfunction of the air bags. I feel that this is an issue with faulty air bags, not my financial issue. And is this car still safe for us to drive" please help.

I have been watching the recall listing for campaign number 07V344000 because this is exactly what is wrong with my vehicle but my VIN always comes up with no open recalls. The seat sensor for the passenger airbag has been determined to be bad but it doesn't apply to my vehicle. If the part is bad and is being recalled for other cars why is my car excluded? the Chevrolet dealer quoted me a cost in excess of $900 for a part I know has an active recall on it.

I purchased a used Equinox and it now has the service air bag indication on the dash & even when occupied by a large adult the passenger side airbag will not turn on. It states off continuously. I did call Chevrolet as some have been recalled for the identical problem, however, was told that my VIN number did not match the recall only 437 cars matched that recall and that I was responsible for the repairs myself.

I purchased this unit in 2010. This is related to the front passenger seat. The signal of the airbag appears off even if there is a passenger seated. This started to happen in 2013. I took it for a diagnostic at a dealer and they said it was a faulty sensor. Very expensive repair. There is a recall for this situation but when I gave my VIN # it appears my vehicle is not included (NHTSA campaign #07V344000).

The ignition locked up. It continues to jam up sometimes at unpredictable times. On this morning the signal for service air bag lit up. I continued driving and after a few minutes it turned off. I took the vehicle into my local dealer ([xxx]) on March 11, 2014, where I was informed the air bag may not function if I am in an accident. The service air bag light has continued to light up more frequently. Presently it turns on almost every day or every 2 days. Concerned the air bag will not work when it is needed. I realize that as the owner of the vehicle I am responsible for the maintenance of the car on parts that are used and worn, but in this case, the malfunction of an integral part of the vehicle associated to the safety and performance of the vehicle should be a standard functioning part that should work throughout the life of the vehicle. Passenger side seat airbag sometimes does not come on. Can't seem to find the problem. Kind of a nerve racking situation. Steering column does not lock when the vehicle is shut off and the key removed. Not a good feeling with all that is going on with GM ignition switch problems.

Whenever the front passenger seat is occupied, the driver should always check the airbag indicator to see if the airbag is on or off. If it is not correct for the situation, the passenger should be moved to a different seat. This can increase the risk of injury to a seat occupant during certain crash conditions. NHTSA campaign id number: 07V344000 my front passenger airbag says that it is turned off even when I am sitting in passanger seat, this has gone on for several months now. It says "service air bag soon" I did some research on the vehicle and problem and it says that this is a recall on the Chevy Equinox. I call Chevrolet and they said that my VIN does not match any current recalls. Thank you
