crack fuel supply line into fuel pump caused gas leak
A FUEL LEAK IN THE AREA OF THE FUEL TANK WAS DETETCED. AT FIRST IT WAS THOUGHT THAT THE TANK HAD CRACKED, BUT AFTER THE FUEL TANK WAS DROPPED A CRACKED PLASTIC SUPPLY LINE LEADING INTO THE FUEL PUMP WAS FOUND. I HAD THE MODULE REPLACED AT MY OWN EXPENSE. AFTER THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED I HEARD OF A RECALL ISSUED BY GM FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM, BUT WHEN I CONTACTED THEM THEY SAID THAT THE RECALL WAS SPECIFIC TO CERTAIN VIN NUMBERS THAT WERE LOCATED IN THE STATES OF ARIZONA, NEVADA AND TEXAS AND AS MY VEHICLE IS REGISTERED IN NY THIS RECALL DOES NOT COVER MY VEHICLE.
HOW CAN A SAFETY RECALL BE ISSUED FOR A SPECIFIC PROBLEM AND NOT COVER ALL VEHICLES THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM? THE RISK OF FIRE FROM MY LEAKY FUEL PUMP WAS THE SAME AS THE CARS LOCATED IN THOSE OTHER STATES. THIS MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE TO ME. A SAFETY DEFECT IS A SAFETY DEFECT, NO MATTER WHAT STATE A CAR IS IN AND SHOULD APPLY TO ALL VEHICLES THAT HAVE THE SAME DEFECT... GM'S REFUSAL TO REMEDY THIS IS UNCONSCIONABLE AND DOES NOTHING TO ENHANCE THERE REPUTATION OF BUILDING QUALITY CARS AND STANDING BEHIND THEM.
