CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2006 Equinox is plagued by a heating problem, as in the heater only blows cold air.
The reported cause of this problem is a small door, known as the air temperature blend door, which allows air to flow past the heater core. This door has a plastic connecting shaft to an electric motor and the shaft is prone to breaking after a few years. The problem has a typical repair cost of over $800.
The 2006 Equinox also has a number of reported problems ranging from the key getting stuck in the ignition, to failing speed sensors, and trouble starting the engine. All in all, this car sounds like one worth avoiding.
From day one the windows have not worked properly. When they are wet and I put the front ones down, they jump so bad that I think they will come off the track (or fall into the door!) I have had this to the dealer so many times I cant count. They say its a design flaw and have no clue how to fix it. What kind of idiots take 4 years to find a solution to a problem you created????? Oh, and this is just the beginning.
Update from Apr 17, 2010: Guess what? Now I have no heat!!! Took it to the dealer and its the blend door. Seems to be a recurring problem witht the Equinox. $1500.00 to fix. Screw that. Dealer was fixing another Equinox for the same thing when I was there. Many complaints for this problem. Why isnt a recall being done on these crappy vehicles???
