CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2006 Equinox is plagued by a heating problem, as in the heater only blows cold air.

The reported cause of this problem is a small door, known as the air temperature blend door, which allows air to flow past the heater core. This door has a plastic connecting shaft to an electric motor and the shaft is prone to breaking after a few years. The problem has a typical repair cost of over $800.

The 2006 Equinox also has a number of reported problems ranging from the key getting stuck in the ignition, to failing speed sensors, and trouble starting the engine. All in all, this car sounds like one worth avoiding.

I would say these have been going bad for a few months. I didn't really notice it until my husband pointed it out and now I am annoyed with it. They are getting worse and the humming is getting louder. These will have to be replaced soon or it will cause more damage.

We have changed all 4 of the wheel bearings and then had to change another one on the front passenger side wheel. We have also had to change the center support bearing. Every year one goes out and the front has now been changed twice. My husband swears he will never buy another CHEVY

Mine went out, had extended warranty so it covered most of it. A month, same one went out again, paid labor, part was still under warranty. 6 months later, same one out again, paid labor again. Original bearing was so rusted onto the spindle had to replace that because it was causing the bearing to keep wearing out.

Chevy knows of this problem so why are we paying for a defect of design? Think they need to make it right!

I have actually had 2 of the 2006 Equinox'. The first one that needed the rear wheel bearings replaced was on my company car. I put miles on this car a lot faster than the one I purchased for a family car. Both were purchased new in 2006.

I'm not going to rant: Both cars needed wheel bearing replaced at about the same mileage. My bet would be that this is a manufacturing defect if all the fact and figures could be gathered on how many 2006 Equinox' have had the wheel bearing replaced.

If there has been a change to the wheel bearings after 2006 then that should prove that Chevrolet knew there was a problem and is probably hiding the problem from the consumer.

WHAT'S A POOR CONSUMER TO DO?

Answer is: NOT BUY another Equinox.

fairly loud, continuous roaring noise from rear of vehicle. Noticealbe above 35 mph and very evident at 65-70 mph. Right rear wheel bearing diagnosed on hoise by spinning driveline with vehicle off the ground. Replacing bearing resolved problem. Relatiely easy job and only $500 at local repair shop. Doable as a DIY item if you are very handy but I didn't have the time at the moment. This is a part time vehicle for us so parking it for long periods of time likely allowed some slight moisture intrusion into the bearing to cause corrosion? Vehicle did not see heavy duty use or towing. Very quiet with new replacement bearing. Normal item IMO for an 8 year old vehicle.

Had to have the rear wheel bearing replaced on my 2006 Equinox with 35000 miles. I bought this truck brand new, was great for a while, did I get a lemon that only show good for a few years?
